Big Converter's & Shiftpoints...
Big Converter's & Shiftpoints... I know this topic has been beat to death but now that alot of people have aftermarket converter's installed in there cars what are most of ya'lls shiftpoints with the brand name and stall of the converter...
I have Andy Wheelers (Azzkicker)old #7 pump in my car now and the the current shiftpoints are +4 on the 1-2 and +3 on the 2-3..

Re: Big Converter's & Shiftpoints... Even with a high stall, you want your shift points high. The torque multiplication from the converter is not high enough to overcome the gear change, except possibly for a very high stall like the Yank UT 4600 & 4800.
I shift at 6300 but may raise it to 6400 or 6500 depending upon my dyno tuning results.

Re: Big Converter's & Shiftpoints... With most bolt on cars is it beneficial to have the car shift so far past the meat of the torque curve ?? With most bolt on cars like mine making its most power around the 5800/5900 rpm range wouldn't shifting the car above that hurt performance..

Re: Big Converter's & Shiftpoints... With my TP4500/3.42 my shift points are +3 for both shifts. I shift around 6550(1-2) and 6500(2-3) and recover to 5350-5400 <img src="images/icons/grin.gif" border="0">

It always comes down to how high you need to buzz the motor to have good shift recovery.
Too low and you drop out of the best part of the powerband on your shifts. Too high and you don't pull.

Verdad Gallardo Re: Big Converter's & Shiftpoints... You need to look at total torque to the rear wheels. When you upshift, the total torque drops by the ratio of the gears. For example in the 2-3 you go from 1.62 down to 1.00. Thus the torque multiplication from gearing decreased by almost 40%. The engine is not making 40% more torque at 4000 rpm than at 6000 rpm.
On the 1-2 upshift, the drop is even bigger.

John I understand what you are saying because running Andy's #7 pump converter the car doesn't drop RPM's between shifts as bad as the Yank 3000 I had before...
Were having another F Body get together at Eunice in a couple of weeks so I'll try some new settings then..

John I understand what you are saying because running Andy's #7 pump converter the car doesn't drop RPM's between shifts as bad as the Yank 3000 I had before...
