PCM controls the trans shifts via electrical solenoids. neat thing is starting in 2000-2002, all autos have the second gear start. you just put the selector in 2 and it'll start off in second. here's a dyno of my 00 formula starting in 2nd gear at 10 mph.

Nice to have in wet or slippery weather. Great for the burnout box at the track too.

I had it programmed on mine in my 95 transmission. It's all in the programming not the valve body. I use mine in the burn out box as mentioned.

I need it for some really crazy stop-go traffic...

I have HPTuner & can't find anything that will program for a 2nd gear start ??
Maybe because 1998 didn't have it, it won't be in program ??

Anyone know what brand of aftermarket valve-body, or valve body shift kit, for this ??
Or maybe someone knows of a simple valve-body or solanoid mod to make 2nd gear start possible ??

Thanks,
Dave

Maybe the HPTuner gurus in the PCM section can help. I would ask there too if you havn't already.

I checked my 2001 F-body Helms manual last night. It says that the 1st gear soleniod is not activated and allows only 2nd gear to be applied. basically it is overriding the 1 -> 2 shift and going directly into 2nd. I was mistaken in the valve body thing, it is electronically controlled, but I will research how it can be done via HPTuners.

see if you can get a .bin for a 2000-2002 auto fbody. then look into integrating that part of the programming into your car. or see if you can use that OS with your PCM.

I've used it for the snow, but why else would you want to use second gear start?
