MY TCI 3000 stall review
HI guys
I recently purchased and installed a TCI 3000 stall converter in my 99 C5 corvette with 2.73 gears.
I went with the following converter:
Part number 243106 - Includes a 10" converter and a 12" lockup clutch (245mm and 298mm respectively)
3000 stall, 2.2 STR
Made a few programming changes when the converter was installed. (line pressure, TM, shiftpoints etc)
Onto the good stuff I find the converter AWESOME!!
The converter is a little loose with 2.73s but nothing you can't get used to very quickly.
Lockup is very positive and there is no slipping/shuddering.
For speeds up to 60mph I drive around in D and on the freeway I put the car in OD.
Flashes to about 3100-3200 and shift extension is AWESOME.
I am running a stock tune (except for Tstat and shiftpoint, TM changes etc, no AF dyno tuning)
TPIS headers
Z06 catback
Halltech stinger
On stock runcraps at 32psi With ZERO traction at the track (They didnt put any glue down) and a 15mph headwind I went 13.0@110mph with a 2.23 sixty
DA was ~800 feet
I had literally had to feather it all through first up to 60mph.
With a sticky tire I am confident low 12's at ~112mph will be possible. not bad for a couple of boltons
So far the converter gets an A+
I'll keep everyone posted on how the car runs with a sticky tire.
If anyone has any Q's please feel free to ask.

ps- I installed a 160 stat and programmed the fans when the converter went in. I decided to try the car without a tranny cooler at first. The trans temps never went above 190 degrees after three back to back hotlaps. Average trans temp was ~165-180 degrees

Nice review!! I wish everyone would give a brief review of their stall once they get some seat time and possibly some track #'s to compare. Once my SS3800 and shift kit is installed i'll be shure post to up my thoughts and track times.
With that 110mph trap 12's will be cake once you can hook!! Sadly I think i'll be running my wore out F1's at the track, so I don't expect much...lol

We'll starting a pool on how long it takes before Chris starts talking about going to a 3500, which I suspect will occur shortly after his first track visit with nittos on the car.
For the love of God, put a tranny cooler in there. Soon it will be summer in the frozen north.

Vettes are easy to keep cool without a cooler. With the fluid pumping all the way from the back to the front of the car the temps are quite nice
This converter is more than enough for me.
I had a TP4400 in the formula and that thing was way too much. Plus the Yank slipped like crazy when locked
Going to adjust shiftpoints (~6300rpm 1-2 and similar for 2-3) That alone should pick up a couple mph with these 2.73s in there. (1-2 was 5800rpm and 2-3 6000rpm at the track sat) hopefully there is no headwind this weekend.
Going to try and borrow a set of 17 inch ET streets or drag radials this weekend as see what I can get with a full throttle launch and pass.

my best on shityears was 12.9@ 105 w/ my ssf3500- only can manage 12.80's now with my ssf3800 and nitto's- with 1.85-1.90 60fts. i just CANNOT launch the car half as hard as it could if it would dead hook- my car is almost stock and the nitto's are just not enough to flash it, but im ok with that because i'd rather spin a little than break stuff. i have 2.73's btw.
i **** people up on the street all of the time however. funny how a 12.80 car can beat sooooo many 12.50 cars on the street by more than a carlength at the 1/4 mile. but i hear auto's are slower
also, don't you think 6300 is a tad high for your modifications? i was under the impression w/out springs at least you are playing with fire over 6200.
have fun with it, 110mph could get you low 12's if you can hook, good luck...

Well, I really lilke mine. My choice of this converter was influenced by a guy called The Colonel who used to post a lot. He had had a lot of different converters but really sang the praises of the 3000/2.2 in his daily driver Vette. People always say you're going to want bigger, but I'm not as long as I drive it daily in town. My only complaints are that even with 245 Nittos it's still been hard for me to hook up (but the track jockey was waaay overdoing the water in the burnout box) and my GMMG is much louder now. If I can get a 1.80 60' I should be into the 12's.

Anything over 6400rpm and you have to worry about valvefloat with the stock springs.
Ideally I'd like a 6200rpm shiftpoint but am raising the limiter to 6400-6500rpm as a cushion only. (It'll never rev that high)
I spoke to Colonel a fair bit about this converter as well.

im glad you like that converter. im also of fan of it.
on nittos with not the best traction, i cut low 1.80s last year.
with headers, orp and dynotuning i just had done, im expecting low 1.70s 60" times.

I cant wait to be able to try a set of ET streets or DR's with this converter. It's going to be sick
I adjust my shiftpoints yesterday: 1-2 is now 6200rpm instead of 5800rpm and 2-3 is 6200rpm up from 6000rpm
That should make a decent difference as well. Going to head to the track on Saturday and see how the car likes the change.

That'll be nice! I'll still be on street tires though
I hear they have VHT now so the track should at least be stickier. Also going to run the tires at 25 psi instead of 32.
Should be a crosswind of 5mph instead of a 15mph headwind as well
Hopefully 12's will be mine on these godawful runcraps

A better explanation would be at high rpms the valves don't close comepletely.One is a loss of power and two is pow period, when the piston makes contact with the partially open valve.Minor damage would be a bent pushrod, but any thing can be seriously damaged, from pistons split in two, to bent valve stems to broken springs to all of the above.

With a similar headwind (14mph) and still on runcraps I ran a best ET and Best mph of 12.72 and 111.02. Sixty was only 2.1!!! Feathering through all of first. (No VHT AGAIN!)
Car has LOW 12's with a drag radial for sure

Nice times!! I can't wait to get my SSF3500 put in and my TCI billet servo's, HD 3-4 Band, HD Drum, and HD Clutches/Steels. I'm hoping for some low 12's with only bolt-ons. I think my QA1-12ways front and rear should help with the 60ft time on my 315/35 Nittos!
