Is D more powerul than OD?
If I remember correctly running in D will deliver more powere because the trans will use more of the clutches available to shift. When in OD lets say it uses 4or5 of the clutches and when in D it will use all 7 clutches. It doesn't use them all in OD to save gas. I don't remember where I heard that or if it's even true just sounded like it makes some sense.

Another thing thats going to confuse people here is that the firebird/camaro are labled differently
camaro 1 2 D OD
firebird 1 2 3 D but its the same thing
anyway, I can't tell one difference between running in 3 or 4. The only way i'd interperate the manual by saying it has more power is due to the responsiveness being up in 3rd compared to 4th when you get on it. However that'll have no effect what so ever at the track.

The pressure drop between shifts (on the tranny dyno ) is greater in D or third gear than it is in OD. Also ; the recovery time to optimal line pressure is quicker in OD, than it is in D. I don't know about anyone else but I'd prefer quicker shifts and optimal line pressure to engine breaking anyday of the week. I hope this helps Dave
