First of all, I know this is an LS1 board, but since there is a ton of knowledgeable guys here, I thought I would ask what converter would be good for my car. The car is a 1995 T/A, with the LT1 and 4L60E, with 3.23 gears. I have got the list of converters down to 3 but I need some more help on choosing which one. Also to take into consideration, I will be installing headers, most likely FLP's, and possibly a 3.73 gear to help out things. The gear might not be added till later, but I thought I would mention it. The list of converters are the Yank ST3500, Yank SY3500, or the PI Vig 3200. I know that you guys all like the ST3500 for your LS1's, but I was wondering if any of you guys have/had any experience with any of these 3 in an LT1. I have rode in one LT1 car with the SY3500, and it made a big difference, but it was a bit loose. So if you guys could help out a fellow f-body member I would really appreciate it.

This is NOT LS1.com it's LS1Tech.com. It's much better here. As far as what converter to use, I have an M6 so I can't help you there. Vigilante, and Yank seem to be what most people use though. I'm sure either manufacturer would be able to point you to the right size to go with

For those of you who read my the first post, I said LS1.com not LS1tech.com. It was just a typing error, as I knew where I was, as I go here everyday, several times. And yes this site is better than the first site I mentioned. As soon as I went back and read my post, I changed it immediately.

You will want something a little lower in the rpm range than an LS1 simply because of different HP peaks.
I think a 3000-3200 would be just about perfect for the strip, and with a set of 3:73's it shouldn't be to bad on the street at all.

PS- LT1's ROCK!

You'll find that the Yank ST 3500 will be a bit tighter than the SY 3500 you drove. 3.73 gears will tighten up the feel too. If you're really concerned about looseness, the ST is available in a 3200/3300 stall.
I know guys who have had good results from the P.I. 2800 and another that had some issues with the P.I. 3200, but thought it was computer tuning related, but nonetheless, he ended up back with the 2800.
Good luck, sounds like you'll be getting a lot faster soon.

My buddy went 12.9 in his 97 A4 with PI2800, 3.73's, CAI, !cats, !front swaybar, catback, shorty headers, and drag radials.
I would do a PI2800 if you DO NOT plan to do a cam.

Sounds like most everyone on here says to go with the PI 2800. Now what about the Yank 3000 or 3200 converter, or the Yank 2800 thruster. I do plan on doing a different cam later on, but it most likely wont happen this winter or next year. From what I have been reading on cz28.com and what you guys say, the 2800 sounds like the way to go. Also, could the 2800 be changed to go to a 3000 or so, or would it work the best in the 2800 form. PSJ, you said your friend ran a 12.9 with his 97 A4, how would my car run with the PI2800, new 1.6 RR's, quite possibly 3.73 gears, and FLP LT's, and drag radials or slicks?? Also what did your friend 60' with his car?? Also how much of a difference would 3.73 gears make in the way the car drives with the PI2800. Sorry about all the questions, but Im just trying to get all this figured out.

I'd think you had high 12 second potential in the car. I'd say 1.7-1.8 60 ft potential.
Also check out www.mfba.org since you are in IL.
Email me at prostockjohn@hotmail.com and I will give you my buddy's email address...
I am not familiar with Yank stuff for LT1s.
Do you have HPP? I would do 1.6's and move up your rev limiter and move up your shifts since stock they are 5750 for the LT1. I'd do 6000.
