Default Banging noise

Got my tranny beefed up but now on the 1-2 shift even at medium throttle, there is a loud banging noise under the middle of the car. Thought I also heard it once under full throttle in 1st gear. Any ideas?

Today, I noticed that when I got on it in first, it sounded like something in the tranny area was banging repeatedly. Converter and tranny are both new. What's up with that?

How big a job is it if it's the tranny mount or the torque arm?

Had a new tranny mount put in and torque arm is tight but still makes the banging noise when shifting under heavy load. Got around it a little by lowering shift pressure and increasing shift time but only at low torque levels. Car doesn't make the banging noise when driving at part throttle but still does with anything over 1/2 throttle. It's like something is hitting the bottom of the car just behind the driver.

Had exhaust checked by two shops and they both said it's not the exhaust. This has got everyone stumped. Also, this never made the banging noise till the tranny was beefed up and it had the new converter.

Tranny mount and torque arm are tight. Now I'm wondering if it could be something inside the tranny when it was rebuilt.

my beefed up tranny does the same thing. i'm running a 3800 vig verter and it bangs 1 and 2 shifts too. my g/f was asking me the other day if we were gonna have to buy another one it was so bad. i got poly trans mounts and t/a mounts on the way. to me it sounded internal. like to much clearance in some of the gears. $2500 transmission worn out after like 5,000 miles ****** pathetic.

I know what you mean. $2,000 for mine and plus almost $1,000 for the converter. I hope it turns out to be something minor.

i have the same problem but it is when i shift gears at slower speeds. I had someone shift from park to drive and it seems like the exhaust is hitting the driveshaft. I also have a quarter turn of play in my rear pinion yoke? i dunno what thats about either, been happening since i put the locker in. those are the two things I found were making noise.

Guys, i hate to be the one to play devils advocate, but it MIGHT, and i stress might be the torque converter, it may not be sitting flush inside the transmission, i had a similar problem, and did all the things you guys are listing, and in the end it turned out to be that the TC just wasnt sitting flush in the trans, and made a bad clunk, or bang when you start getting on the gas
