Default Is this slipping?

I have almost 60k on my stock tranny and I have had absolutely no problems so far. But, when I am driving on the highway, the converter is locked and everything is fine. Then, let's say I have to brake and slow down. Then, after I am done with that and I put my foot back on the gas, it will seem to try to unlock again and then the converter locks again. Is that considered slipping? I am just curious because if it is, I will stop racing the car this year and save for a new tranny.

From your description it does not sound like it is slipping. The torque converter clutch might be chattering a little.
When was the last time you had the trans fluid changed?
I race my car a good bit and I change the trans fluid every other oil change and the filter once a year.

If it's just unlocking when you give it gas, that's normal.

If you're driving along a flat stretch of roadway with the cruise control on and it starts unlocking and locking, then you need to start worrying.

That sounds normal. If its always unlocking when reapplying the gas your can adjust the lockup points so it won't unlock at light throttle.

Also, if its not unlocking, tip in slip is common with some aftermarket stalls. If you are coasting at 70mph and tip in the gas say at 35% TPS, the converter will slip for half a second(200-300 rpm or so) as the trans pressure raises to prevent it.

It has been about 8500 miles since I changed the tranny fluid. I think I am just going to change it.

When you change the fluid are you also changing the filter? Get that changed if its been untouched.

I don't think it has ever been changed to be honest with you. I'm going to talk to Dave today and see if he is busy.
