Biggest street driven stall
What is the biggest street driven stall converter being used on this board?
I see a large amount of people have a 4400 stall. Is there anyone running something bigger?
For those with the 4000+ stall's how is the daily driving on them?
I have a 410 cubic inch motor with 3.73's a 240+ duration cam am I am going NA for a while.
I have a PT4200 siting at my house but have been thinking of going a little bigger. Need some oponion's to see if going bigger is acturally better.
Thanks

been daily driving a pt4200 for about 6 weeks now. doesnt bother me much except in 20-25mph traffic where it wont shift into 3rd. of course, the gas mileage sucks and it makes alot of noise but who cares

IMHO i think that 240 cam makes your car less "driveable" than a higher stall converter. Either way though tuning can make a great big difference in how it drives. I drove with a 4400 stall for a while with no problems. I dont think I would go much over that though, when you start getting that serious you might as well admit its not really a daily driver anymore, JMO.

Kinda the answer I was looking for.
More or less like you can have a 347 with a T rex, and stage 3 LS6 heads, but once you switch over to 13:1 compression and solid roller you might as well just admit it's a damn race car.
With what my goal is I guess staying below 4500 is the right choice.
My goal is to run mid/high 10's consistantly in a car I drive every day.
Most of the people on this site race their daily driver's, and I would rather post some numbers to compair with everyone else instead of posting numbers that look like a race car setup.
My car is 3700 lb race weight anyways as I haven't ever put the car on a diet.
Thanks

I tried an 8" 4800 and it was WAYYYYYYYYYYYYY too loose. Had it restalled to a 4600. I think it might still be a little to big seeing as how it has a stock cam in it, but i don't wanna send it in for a restall when i do get a monster cam so i'll just keep it.
BTW this 8" 4600 stalls to about 5,500 on the trans brake!
Drive it 90+miles a day and it gets 15/20 (city/highway) in a TH350. not too shabby.

I had a Yank PT 4400 in my 98 Formy. When I put the Vortech on it stalled to 5200. I didn`t like the way it drove on the street before the SC and it was horrible on the street with the Vortech. On motor it was great at the track but too much w/SC, couldn`t get traction. Had it restalled to 3800 by Yank I think it will be much better now.

if i put a stroker motor in it would stall even higher than 5,500 on the brake.
So by your logic you can restall and rename your stall by adding more power and not even touching the converter.

Ok so by your logic a nitrous shot jetted to a 100 shot that produces 130-150 to the wheels is still a 100 shot huh???? Thats's interesting cause to me it's what it puts to the wheels.
My 4400 flashed to 4400 with 381 hp not 5500. I could only foot break it to 3000-3200. They name the stall for what it flashes too.... and yes I know the more power you put to it the stall speed/flash, but guess what... if it flashes to 5500 then it's a 5500 now

I love my 4000 stall form yank....driveability is now perfect since I got another tune on it...the first one made it stay in the wrong gear, or too long, etc. Now the car is in 3rd most of the time, and in 4th when it needs to be. Get of the gas and cruise see it drop to 2k or less. Cruising on the highway 2k or less. I think I actually get at or better gas mileage than I had wiht the stock converter....stop and go can suck, but I have learned to compensate for it......I personaly have not driven higher than a 4000 so i don't know how they are, but if I can have this converter and it does as good as it has, I don't think I will go with anything else.....not to mention I can still grow into this converter better with more mods.

It is after experience that they get more accurate.
If it foot brake to one stall and trans brakes to a different stall the trans brake is the actural stall of the converter.
So if you foot brake to 4000 it means nothing, but because he said he could T brake it to 5500 it is a 5500 stall.
Someone messed up if it was supposed to be a 4600.
