a4-th400 conversion, neutral safety switch question
will the car start without the NSS hooked up and if i need it how do i go about making it work with the th400? im sticking with the stock shifter if that makes any difference. it is one of the last things left to do before its done so any quick info would be appreciated...

If you want the nss with the stock shifter you're going to need to fabricate something.
Going by what I've seen I'd get a long 4L80E manual shaft that the nss will slide over, then make a bracket to mount the switch to the pan bolts or something.

it is on the stock shifter but the guy who is doing the trans said that it plugged into the trans on the 4l60e but there isnt a place to plug it into the th400 so he is under the impression it wont be functional. The actually switch is on the shifter but it isnt plugged into anything

Ok the neutral safety switch is in the shifter, I was thinking trucks with 4L80E's they have the NSS, backup light switch on the trans. Just went out and looked at my camaro and the NSS is in the shifter.
Now there is no reason at all why this won't work on a th400 conversion.
What comes to mind though is the abbreviation NSS never seen that before, now I have seen VSS, vehicle speed sensor, now this would defineatly be a problem on a th400 swap, there is a way to get that to work if thats the problem.
But going from a 4L60E to a th400, P,R,N,D, are in the same place so it should not be a problem since the switch is not on the trans.

I know someone here has to have the answer.
You might start a new thread on adapting the 4L60E VSS to th400 VSS.
The thread topic about the NSS might not get the needed attention.
