stock a4 w/410s - what speed @ 6,500 in 3rd gear?
i want 373 or 410 gears for my a4, i have a multitude of mods planned, including g5x3, exhaust, stall, etc etc. i just want to know if anyone has real numbers to share with me. a4 in 3rd gear with 410s, i am not expecting a trap speed in excess of 115 mph. i want to avoid the car shifting into OD in the 1/4 mile. any 373 numbers bearing the same variables?

gimme a sec and i'll get you the 3.73 numbers. I do know that converter locked....3.73..26" tire was 140mph in 3rd gear. That was trapping 136mph in the 1/4
ok got some more info:
in 3rd unlocked, my mph was 115 @ 6600 rpms. This is with a vig 3800 multidisc converter. If your converter is more efficient, your rpms will be a tick lower. Go with a 28" tire and they will be lower as well. Remember, your trap speed is an avg so you will be going a little faster than your trap speed when you let off the gas. I trapped 136 but was going 140 when i let off the gas

1. converters seriuosly screw with rpms
2. how do you know your speedo is calibrated correctly? do you know EXACTLY what is the effective size of your tire at 150mph?
this is theory, this is math. how well it fairs with reality is anyone's guess

so it appears...since i will have a stall with these gears, 373s with a 26" tire will keep me from shifting to OD in the 1/4 with a trap speed 112-115. 410s with the same setup will want OD, correct?

RedHardSupra, I know the table is mathmatically correct, just not the numbers you will see with a stalled auto...I check my speedo with a GPS....I always get rpm/mph data from logs anyway...you know how crazy our gauges are. Wasn't trying to dis ya, I just want him to know that if he bases his gearing combo on that chart, he is gonna be disappointed
3.73 should be fine for your combo
