Default Any recommendations on trans fluid?

I'm tossing in a converter here soon and was seeing if there are any brands of trans fluid that are more preferable for our cars then others. I have a 01 TA.

Thanks!

Adam

Any name-brand, non-synthetic Dexron III will do the trick.

The synthetic oil is too slick and makes the clutches slip. I use the regular valvoline and works great.

I dont belive that synthetic can damage anything... why would royal purple and red line sell them?

Believe it or not, there's more than one automatic transmission on the planet besides the GM 4L60E. That's why they sell them. GM does not recommend the use of synthetic ATF in the 4L60E tranny for the reasons given above. It causes excessive slippage which in turn causes excessive friction and heat.

There's clutches and there's clutches. The ones in the
planetaries (and the band) are different than the one
in the converter. Aftermarket converters use a variety
of materials systems that GM doesn't have any say
about, so you need to look at what satisfies -both-
vendors' recommendations. You're maximally safe with
a name brand Dexron-III straight ATF. What you can
or can't get away with, in pursuit of some or other
"feature", you really don't want to discover on your
own. Not all adventures have happy endings.
