Ok, my current understanding (and correct me if I'm wrong):

Gear#(name)....Shifter position......Button status
1..(1st)...............1......................Off
2..(1st High)........1......................On
3..(2nd)..............2......................Off
4..(2nd High).......2......................On
5..(3rd)...............3......................Off
6..(3rd High/OD)....3......................On

What this means:

If you are in 1st, to go to 1st high, you push the GV button. To go from 1st high to 2nd, you push the button again (to turn it off), and shift to second. To go from 2nd to 2nd high, you press the button. To go from 2nd high to 3rd, you push the button again (to turn it off), and shift to 3rd. To go to 3rd High/OD, you press the button.

Everyone got that? <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0"> <img src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" border="0">

[quote] Can't wait for the full right up......I'm still a little confused...

So if you want to use the "stock" 3 gears you don't touch the buttons at all, but if you want to split all the gears you have to not touch the shifter hit the button, then shift into gear?? Or do you put the car in 1st gear, then hit the button.......and if you want to shift to 2nd you move the shifter into 2nd and you will be in low 2nd or do you have to hit the button again??

Thanks...... <hr></blockquote>

Ok ill try to explain it from the top lets say i'm gonna run threw all six gears. I floor it starting in normal first > I hit the rev limit > I hit the button > I am now in OD first > I hit the rev limit > I pull the lever down to second > I am now in *OD* second > So I need to hit the button *again* to go back to normal second > I hit the button > I am now in normal second > I hit the rev limit > I hit the button > I am now in OD second > I hit the rev limit > I pull the lever down to third > I am now in *OD* third > So I need to hit the button *again* to go back to normal third > I hit the button > I am now in normal third > I hit the rev limit > I hit the button > I am now in OD third.

Now I wan't everyone to repeat all that five times as fast as you can! <img src="gr_eek2.gif" border="0">

I think that was 11 shifts. Someone else count them up. My eyes hurt...

Just use a momentary button at the track, and connect the OD to the torque converter lockup wire coming off the PCM. When the torque converter goes to lockup in 3rd and 4th gear it will turn OD on automatically.

No no if you are first high and hit the GV button to turn it off before you shift into second that would send you back to normal first but at to high of a speed that would be a mechanical over rev and the drum in your TH400 would go KaBoOm.

Man, this kit is sounding a little too complicated..........Wouldn't want to blow everything up...I'm sure if you did a "mechanical" over rev, the valves would go bye bye..... <img src="gr_sad.gif" border="0">

The install is not hard. You just unbolt the six bolts of the TH400 tail housing and the GV unit bolts on right there. Yes I recommend the GV unit. I don't think any car out there to date has used the normal first gear, normal second and then OD second, normal third method and not gone faster. Having a TH400 with 4400 stall that can highway cruise just plain rules.

I know it sounds bad but its all fine when you actually get in there and drive it. Its not hard at all after a little practice. I don't think its anymore risky then driving a reverse pattern manual valve body.

I said risky not hard. You can do a mechanical over rev in a reverse pattern manual valve body.

Yea, I could see that because if you don't shift at a high speed your screwed

Not quite what I meant. If you don't shift at high speed you will simply tag the rev limiter... No big deal. But what you can do that IS a big deal is be going a 125 mph and put it into FIRST.

Exactly! So my point is if you are a good enough driver to know when NOT to push a lever... You should be good enough to know when NOT to push a button <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0">

How can you do a mechanical over rev on a TH400. On my TH400 1st and second gear have no engine braking. so letting off the gas in first or second is like pushing in the clutch in a manual car. So say you were in 1st over and hit the button and then shift quickly. If you were already at the motors rev limit it would just tag the rev limiter more for a split second because the tranny wont spin any faster than it would at redline in 1st gear. then just grab second quick and off you go. With my old 6spd car I once shifted from 3 - 2 while at nearly 100mph at the track. THAT is a mechanical over rev. because when the clutch is disengaged there is engine braking. since 1st and second in the TH400 have no engine braking I dont see how it's possible. Or I could just be really dumb too <img src="gr_grin.gif" border="0"> Anyways Like I was saying before you COULD program a microcontroller to activate the OD when at certain RPM/MPH in any given gear and have it be fully automatic. aside from actually moving the shifter. It would be alot of work and some good circuit design but it's definately possible.

Hmmm when I get to 6k in first gear and let off the gas it dose engine brake... Not for very long because of the 4400 stall but it dose do it. Can somone else help to clarify this? Maybe i'm dumb?! <img src="images/icons/confused.gif" border="0">
