Trans not downshifting
ok guys maybe you can answer this question. i just installed a 226/226 .585/.585 cam. since the install my transmission is acting weird. i've had the car tuned for the cam. from a dead stop at WOT it will shift really quick and ill be in 3rd or 4th by 30mph. while im driving when i hit it to the floor, it wont downshift. it stays in gear and accelerates slowly. from a dead stop if i put the shifter in 1st. at WOT it takes off in 1st, but quickly shifts into second with the shifter still in 1st. then when i left off the gas it slams down into 1st gear. i've never had a problem with it until after the cam install and the tune. any help would be appreciated.

Wow. What a coincidence. Check this out:

I'm having similar problems. I think I've narrowed it down to the tune. Who did your tune?

im thinking it might be something with the TCS module. its acting like the tcs kicks on like when you spin out with the switch on. the car bogs down and wont let you take off. it shifts and drives fine at part throttle. is it possible for the TCS module to get stuck on even with the switch off.

that sounds like torque management to me, do you have a shift kit? Also who did the tune, you can pm me with who did the tune if you dont want to say on the open board. I can help you out like i said before but your going to need a tuner of some sort which might void the tune you have now. Some places like cartek will lock the vin/void your tune if you try and read the pcm. If you did the tune or if you have hp tuners/ls1 edit i wouldnt mind helping you out.

brian up at pcm for less tuned the car. i personally dont have a tuner, but a buddy has one. he tuned it for the 373 rear end just the other night. so it must not be locked out. he said all the tables looked right as far as shifting. im not sure about the torque management. is there a certain setting it should be or how does it work.

Before the dealer ***-rapes you, check out Horists' HPTuner .bin site. You can download a stock '98 bin file, slap into onto a floppy disk, and have east coast reflash with the stock tune (assuming east coast uses HPTuners). It'll be much cheaper this way.

got that message a lil too late. i took it to a gm dealer and had it reflashed. it cost me 100 bucks, but the car shifts like a champ now. so im taking it back to east coast today and getting it tuned for the cam the right way. i would never recommend pcm for less to anyone. you get what you pay for....

Well, I say it was worth it then. I'm waiting for HPT to come in the mail so I can reflash back to my stock tune. If it fixes my trans issues, than it was worth whatever it costs to be able to sleep at night :bang.

well i just got the car tuned and it ran fine for a while. i took it to the track and the same thing happened. it started out in second gear. if i let off the gas and punch it again. it goes into first and right back into second. with the shifter in 1st it still started in second. however if im driving down the road and come to a complete stop. it works like a champ and just screams. so im thinking it can't be the tuning because some times it works and sometimes it doesn't. i got a code for the throttle position sensor. i changed that and the VSS. no luck. im lost.....

as for the throttle position sensor, did you do the bump stop mod that allows the throttle blade to open all the way. If you take too much metal off the bumpstop and the voltage to the vss goes above 5volts it will throw a code...

im thinking my torque converter is screwed. when i feel the torque converter working normal. i can stop and punch it and it hauls.... sometimes after i hit 4th gear the converter doesn't lock up. if i stop then and try it...it screws up and it feels like its locked up. it actually feels like its in 3rd gear from a stop.
