Default AN fittings on a trans cooler overkill?

Just curious. Going to be throwing on a trans cooler in the near future. My tuning guy bumped up the line pressure in the trans so I guess I'm worried about blowing a line off.

Are AN fittings and braided lines overkill? Will I be ok with the rubber hoses and some clamps?

Overkill? Maybe, but I can tell you from experience that it really sucks when one of your tranny cooler lines comes loose on the Interstate while you're traveling at 80+ mph. By the time I saw the big, "smokescreen" plume of white smoke trailing from my '99 Camaro SS (my car at the time) and got pulled over, the tranny was completely dry of ATF. My friend/mechanic came out with a case of tranny fluid and we got it back going and there was no damage done to the tranny, but I had nasty, burnt tranny fluid all over the underside and back of the car and it stank for months after that!

FWIW, I stayed with the barbed ends and hose clamp on the SS and am using them on the 'Vette and have never had a problem again, but I do hear of them coming loose on other cars now and again. I'd feel better with ANSI fittings, so if you can do it easily, it sure wouldn't hurt anything.

I used the rubber lines in the kit, until they started leaking like mad... Now I have braided hose and ends.

Every line that transfers fluid on my car is either hard line or AN/braided. Transmission lines, oil lines, brake lines, radiator hoses, etc. Don't want a fluid leak @ 150mph.

Does anyone recall the size and length of lines, number and size fittings, etc. Complete list I guess. I was going to install this weekend with rubber hoses that came with B&M cooler until I read this post.

I just put a b&m 24,000 cooler on my car this weekend and the lines leaked at first. I had to double clamp them and put silicone around the part the hose goes over.
98A4LS1 my cooler came with 4 ft. of rubber hose and I had some left over, so if you get 4 ft of line you should be good, not sure about the fittings though.

$120 for fitting and worth every penny.

if youre going to do it, do it right.
