How much should a 4L60E rebuild cost me?
Sorry for the Newbie question...
I'm real close to buying a 99Z with a probable bad transmission...it slips in 3rd and 4th gears...
Anyway, I'm just trying to get an idea of how much I'll be paying for one, BEFORE I actually buy the car and get shocked or whatever...
any recommendations of a shop in or near Baltimore is a big plus too...
Thanks.

If you know someone and pull the tranny yourself you might be able to get someone to rebuild it for as little as 800.
If you are buying a rebuilt unit from a good shop expect to pay anywhere from $1200-3000 depending on the goodies you have added to it.
If you are having it all done at a shop I'd expect to pay somewhere between $2000-4000 depending on how built of a transmission you get.
If you let people know what horsepower range you wanted the car to handle when it's complete the price tag can be zeroed in on a little, but without knowing what's wrong/broken for sure it's just a wild *** guess.

Not looking for a full race unit with stall converter or anything...car is bone stock as of right now...My plans are the "basic" bolt-ons...which is what, a mid 12 second car, I'd guess...Maybe a whiff of nitrous down the road, but for now just a tranny that doesn't slip and can handle a stock engine...

Well here's a link to a pretty lenghthy post I put up a while ago here with the differences on the levels.

I'm guessing if yer gunna be a bolt on car only with a small shot you probably would never need more than a level 2 transmission.
That other link has links to the makers and lists their prices, and their core charges so that shoudl have all the information you need. If not, holler again!

My tranny just blew up about 3 weeks ago and all the local shops quoted me $1800 to do a full rebuild with OEM GM parts. Basically the same weak peice of **** I already had. After talking w/ Cablebandit and watching his car personally he talked me into buying a Rock on Tranny from Dave @ Rock on. I bought a Level 4 shipped to my door was $2069 Im off tomorrow morning to have the thing installed (ill update this post after I break it in)

Do you consider $3500 a helluva deal?
If so, then yes, I guess it's a helluva deal...
