anyone use one of those finned trans pans that help with cooling? i know they hold an extra quart of fluid but does it help dissipate the heat?

 

"They" claim it does, but good luck finding out
quantitative performance. Of course fins are
better, of course more fluid is better, and
everybody likes pie too. But does it make a
3 degree difference or 30?

Thing is, sitting parked in the staging lane you
have squat for cooling airflow there except the
warm undercar breeze that's already been
through the radiator. Mmm... toasty. Moving
along you will see more from it. Where do you
need help the most?

That, and with any kind of lowering you -will-
be on intimate terms with every stinking speed
bump on your route.

In terms of air surface area, which is the primary
heat dump concern, a transmission cooler is way
bigger. Of course you have to feed it air, and you
have to do the plumbing (not a biggie).

Having been through three other pans along the
way I'm sticking with the truck pan w/ drain plug.
Capacity, filter immersion depth and indestructibility
without interfering to the pavement.

 

i think along with a trans cooler,tstat,fans turned on earlier along with a higher fluid capacity a deeper aluminum pan with fins would aid in lower trans temps.

 

i read once in gears one quart is about 4 degrees temp, but if you buy a pan that is cast and thick you also add rigidity to the case which cant hurt. i also saw one pan that was coated with jet hot (the header coating), you can try that
