I'd think about the TH400 swap... and unless you REALLY need the gear vendors unit.. I'd skip that as well. A converter that's just right, and the right rear gear, and it's not as bad as everyone thinks. Besides... I don't think that the gear vendors will hodl up to that kind of power all to well either.
Unless you daily drive the car, or drive alot of long distance trips, a 2.73 geared TH400 setup on the street won't be that bad. And if you do daily the car... what on earth do you need 700 rwhp for LOL!

Oh, also forgot nto mention what a great thread this is. It answered every question I had just about. A big part of me want to go th400 but I just cant imagine cruising on the highway above 3000 rpm's in 60 lol. I know some companies make a lock up kit for the th400 but I dont have alot of info about it. It was one of the few things that wasnt discussed in this thread.
Do you guys think people just didn't drive on highways before the Overdrive came along?
Th350's and 400's were stock transmissions in alot of cars.
Driving at 3000rpm on the highway is fine for you motor...There's no major load on it just cruising down the highway...It'll be just fine.

gas was 70 cents a gallon then . now 93 is $3.00 a gallon Ive had a DD with 4.10's,
th-350 not bad in the city or the highway 4000rpm 70+mph but it will get old quick. We have a gearvendors holding 700 hp. the gas milage went from 10mpg highway to 16mpg with it. It bolts to the end of your transmissions outputshaft . thedriveshaft gets shortened also so its {stronger} . Only downfall is geting it to fit . We had to BFH the floor board .

did anyone take the time to view this link i posted?any comments or questions?http://www.ckperformance.com/gmaodpic.html
im slightly interested in the ck hybrid trans (but price $ not listed...?). pm me any relavent info... main question- how do you adjust the shift points in it? im guessing seperate trans computer ?(more $?). how do you adjust the lockup also. can it handle spraying out of the hole and through the shifts- say a 10.0 car on juice with ALOT of torque?
as far as going with a 400, well i drive REALLY ******* FAST on the highway, like i cruize at 80-90mph so no lockup and no od is out of the question for me at this point. **** i drive faster than 60mph alot of the time.
can't go on replacing 4l60e's forever though, and im in the same boat as alot of these people- gonna buy a built trans SOON but don't know quite what yet...

The 2 trany's are soooo far apart in the power holding capability and THAT should be the MAIN thing considered when comparing these 2.

As it is I am hoping to hurry up and graduate so I can buy an econobox to drive daily, given our ridiculous gas prices.
YIKES! my BB olds with a hp 950 gets around 9
i was hoping i could pull off around 15-18
what do you get on the highway?
what gear and tire size are you running again
anyway my vote goes with the th400 .
my car was a4 toasted one went to a m6 and now going with a L92/402 and know the center force wont hold.

While a 400 is strong for overall drivabilty and performance ill take a 4l60e any day and yes those hp figures are atainable with the 4l60e

I recently went from 4l60e to TH400...I have full manual reverse valve body and a ratchet shifter. The combo works great. Fuel consumption is an issue. The 4l60e was built to be a kitty cat/feel good transmission. The Th400 is more like a freakin Puma. It shifts fast and hard.
