I'd think about the TH400 swap... and unless you REALLY need the gear vendors unit.. I'd skip that as well. A converter that's just right, and the right rear gear, and it's not as bad as everyone thinks. Besides... I don't think that the gear vendors will hodl up to that kind of power all to well either.

Unless you daily drive the car, or drive alot of long distance trips, a 2.73 geared TH400 setup on the street won't be that bad. And if you do daily the car... what on earth do you need 700 rwhp for LOL!
What proof do you have of what the GV can handle?

Oh, also forgot nto mention what a great thread this is. It answered every question I had just about. A big part of me want to go th400 but I just cant imagine cruising on the highway above 3000 rpm's in 60 lol. I know some companies make a lock up kit for the th400 but I dont have alot of info about it. It was one of the few things that wasnt discussed in this thread.

Do you guys think people just didn't drive on highways before the Overdrive came along?

Th350's and 400's were stock transmissions in alot of cars.

Driving at 3000rpm on the highway is fine for you motor...There's no major load on it just cruising down the highway...It'll be just fine.

gas was 70 cents a gallon then . now 93 is $3.00 a gallon Ive had a DD with 4.10's,
th-350 not bad in the city or the highway 4000rpm 70+mph but it will get old quick. We have a gearvendors holding 700 hp. the gas milage went from 10mpg highway to 16mpg with it. It bolts to the end of your transmissions outputshaft . thedriveshaft gets shortened also so its {stronger} . Only downfall is geting it to fit . We had to BFH the floor board .

im slightly interested in the ck hybrid trans (but price $ not listed...?). pm me any relavent info... main question- how do you adjust the shift points in it? im guessing seperate trans computer ?(more $?). how do you adjust the lockup also. can it handle spraying out of the hole and through the shifts- say a 10.0 car on juice with ALOT of torque?

as far as going with a 400, well i drive REALLY ******* FAST on the highway, like i cruize at 80-90mph so no lockup and no od is out of the question for me at this point. **** i drive faster than 60mph alot of the time.

can't go on replacing 4l60e's forever though, and im in the same boat as alot of these people- gonna buy a built trans SOON but don't know quite what yet...

You can't start such a Poll with a ridiculous statement like that and expect resonable results. That's sort of like the guy that posts the Poll "LS1 vs. SBC" on the friggin' LS1Tech site!

The 2 trany's are soooo far apart in the power holding capability and THAT should be the MAIN thing considered when comparing these 2.

YIKES! my BB olds with a hp 950 gets around 9
i was hoping i could pull off around 15-18
what do you get on the highway?
what gear and tire size are you running again

anyway my vote goes with the th400 .

Thank you.
I recently went from 4l60e to TH400...I have full manual reverse valve body and a ratchet shifter. The combo works great. Fuel consumption is an issue. The 4l60e was built to be a kitty cat/feel good transmission. The Th400 is more like a freakin Puma. It shifts fast and hard.

old school answer here anything that can be done to the th400 can be done to the l460e. a guy in my shop drag races the th400 but he is very pro on the l460e and preferrs it over the th400. he also rebuilds transmissions for a living.

So you submit that a 4l60E can be as strong as a TH400? Maybe a 4l80E but not a 4L60E as far as I know.

Why doesn't anyone consider the 4L80e? You have the best of both worlds, it's strong like the th400 and you can drive it on the highway too with the OD.

It robs a bit more power and weighs a little more, still if you need OD a great choice.

I have a 3800. I picked the size I wanted (3600) and went 1 size higher.

Aren't those 4L80Es expensive as hell for a built one too? Like 4K if I remember correctly.
