how much power can a stock a4 trans take?
I Was thinking about getting a pro-charger for my car(2001 a4 Z28) wich they say on their site "ProCharger technology delivers 10-second ET's with the least amount of engine modifications" I was wondering if a stock auto trans (with the exceptions of a wisper lid and slp loud mouth exhaust) could handle that kind of power or would i need to build it more?

Well, I can definitely tell you that it won't withstand the #'s in my sig!
Stock tranny went south with N/A numbers - went with a Rock-On Vacuum Modulated Stage4 - never had a problem again
Still have the stock 10-bolt with 3.73's though Mostly due to loss of traction even with 315/35-17's on the rear!

The tranny probably won't survive but a lot of it depends on how you drive. If you drive it easy, put a trans cooler on (hoping that the tranny has not been abused), and run lower boost then it might last for a little while but I would be building on funds for either a built 4L60E or A3 swap. I'm planning on the A3 swap soon myself. It also varies from tranny to tranny on what they can take, I've seen some 4L60E's go out at 20,000 miles with stock power and I've seen others that can run for 100,000 miles with 450hp, it's just really hard to say. I will tell you that I wouldn't plan on it lasting to long though, just to be safe, and if your planning on running 10's then don't plan on it.

I think your driving habots are going to dictate how long it last, if you drive easy it should last but if you are contantly putting your foot in its days will be numbered.. If you get the SC plan on start saving up for a built tranny..

Get a built 4L60-E from CPT transmissions, they'll do you good, had mine for a couple months and drive on it everyday. Should be fine for your application w/just a procharger.

My A4 went out at 17,000 miles. That is with spraying 75-100 shot, Yank 3000 TC, trans cooler. Car had been running 11.497 NOS to 12.2's NA. Stock except for exhaust and 75 shot car dyno'd at 380 HP and 456 tourque........that was before the cam install.
6 Track passes every weekend for a year and my trans gave up the ghost. When you get that much power the clutches will give out for sure. Plan on having to rebuild at some point in time if you keep the 4l60E.........not a matter of IF it goes out but WHEN.

my super duper b&m cooler sucks, with a 3600 stall
tranny still gets heated up (220 degrees and above) in stop and go traffic (but its pretty good on the highway, remains at 180 degrees)
you need a cooler with a little fan thingy mounted on it, so it blows air into the cooler even if you arent going fast (read, stop and go traffic).

Wow I don't know anyone that can build a stage 4 tranny for $1400.

well i currently have a pro-built race rebuild kit in my 4L60E and i have beat it up pretty good and its running nicely, well i should say it was, but the guy that built it for me forgot to connect the vacume modulator properly, and fried a few parts. On the stock trans i had a TCI 3500, but due to a bad converter it took out the trans when it went out. if your planning on going FI then save yourself the trouble and get a built trans. I would think a stage 3/4 would be more then enough. they can be found for $900-1800 pending on company, and who you know
