Default stall or gears?

I am wanting to next beef up my drivetrain. Was really looking into getting 3.73 gears, but after reading some posts etc. it seems I can get a 3000 stall and not even need gears. what do you guys think? stall and no gears, gears and no stall, or do both?

keep in mind i def. dont have the money right now to do both so what would be best to do first if you are going to vote for both.

oh and im kinda worried about my transmission, im about to roll over 100000 miles on her. I already have the b&m cooler on it, but am kinda scared the stall will start to tear it up

Stall. Screw the gears - save for a 12 bolt later.

Go higher than 3000, or do not bother with the stall. Go 3500 or higher. I have a 3200 and it is too low.

3500 just seems really high for an lt1. plus its an everyday driver. you also have a bit more hp than my car does lol!

Call the manufacturer of the converter you like and talk to them. If you have a dyno sheet and know the weight of your car it will help a lot.

Yea, on auto's, the stall's tend to help more than gears IMO. Eventually you might want to do both but I like the stall over gears.

Stall hands down. But w/ that stall be sure to get a GOOD trans cooler. That will
disipate the extra heat generated. This will greatly help keep your 4L60E alive.

i have a 3800 stall and a 24k GVW cooler and a gauge, my tranny under some hard conditions has never seen above 160* since the cooler and converter. definitely helps under extreme conditions.

Just found this out but, it seems higher than 3000 is a bad idea with the OBDI PCM.

Its a high milage trans..

1. Swap in a better rear with gears... Later swap in a built trans with a stall converter..
2. Swap in a built trans with a stall... Later swap in a better rear...

Either one will help you to avoid doing things twice...

1. Be easier on you old trans...

2. Could break the stock rear...
