Default TransGo install questions..

Tranny if out of the car and I plan on installing the transgo kit in a couple of weeks. My main question is, do I actually turn the tranny over and lay it on its back so the pan is sticking straight up in the air to work on it? Wouldnt all the metal shavings from driling fall down into the tranny>?

Any pre-install suggestions that I couldnt find in a search?

NOTE: I will be getting the modified kit from pro built.

THanks

You will be taking the valve body & separtor plate off before any modifications, thereby you won't be getting anything into the unit.

I would like to do a write up on this since it seems like the supplied instructions are junk. I will let you know what happens..

supplied instructions are junk.
Maybe you should reconsider installing it. Everything you drill, grind, whatever is taken out of the transmission. You could literally take everything to china, drill and grind, clean it and bring it back to the trans. Might as well take it 5 feet to another bench, same results.

The instructions weren't too bad. I had no problem with them.

Good to hear, after reading through a list of posts regarding shift kit installs, all I read was how worthless the video was and how poorly organized the written instructions were. I guess I was just really surprised to find out that no one on LS1tech has written a pictorial how-to for Transgo installs.

I'll read it if you write it... instructions with mine -were-
pretty light, and the video does me no good once I'm
under the car. In fact, all the video did for me, was make
me close the box back up.

If the VB comes out to do the work, I wonder if somebody
like Pro-Built wouldn't be well off to just sell done-up valve
bodies (core+kit+reman labor) saving the attention-span-
challenged among us that hassle. Like get rid of all bench
work, just a 3 connector, 8 bolt swap job with no counting
parts & holes? I'd go for that.

You need to not look at the whole thing you'll get overwhelmed and confused, discouraged, etc, you need to look at one section at a time, divide the 'big shift kit installation' into smaller steps.

I have noticed the instruction sheets change a lot. I put in a few of the same kits and every sheet was different.

Default install

well im going to install mine today.

ill take pics while im doing it.

if i didnt work as a tech in the past i would find the written instructions

frustrating! they are almost like watching the guys on 2 guys garage

i never messed with a 4l60e but i have rebuilt many Mopar a727 tf

and ford aod's i wonder if the tape or instructions were different on the older

kits. With my pics and suggestions from people here you will either be

confused as F*** or hopefully get yah spinnin in the right direction..

wow i must be getting old im looking forward to getting away from the wife

and installing a shift kit and taking install pictures on new years eve.

i allways said i wouldnt get married and i wouldnt have a kid but i did both.

now i cant afford mopars anymore.. oh well i think my ls1 is faster anyways

If you get under there and pull the pan and the valve body, the instructions will make much more sense. I was very frustrated just staring at the instructions, but once you get under there and actually have the valve body in hand, it's not too bad.

BTW, I had my shift kit sitting in my hatch for about a year before my trans took a dump. After my cam, I had some tranny problems, so I finally pulled the pan and took a look at the valve body. Once it's right there in your face the instructions come together for you.

NO GRASS FLYING AROUND IN THE AIR CUZZ YOUR NEIGHBOR DOESNT BAG HIS GRASS AND THE WIND PICKS UP AND BLOWS IT ALLOVER THE PLACE . NO KIDS WITH POPSICKLES.AND TELL YOUR WIFE NOT THE SWEEP THE FRONT PORCH. I think its easier to put this valve body in when the trans is installed in the car due to the way the vale body is setup... or i guess you could use trans gel or vaseline to hold the check ***** inplace on the seperator plate and v/b gasket and then line up the valve body.. put it down slowly. if your gonna have the trans on it back and out of the car. you notice which gasket goes where due to a v and c being cut into it the gasket
c= case or closest to the case the comes the seperator plate the the one markes v or valvebody
