help tranny rebuilt and 3-4 lost okay i have a 98 camaro ss a4.i just rebuilt the tranny 3 weeks ago.my first problem was that at wot 3-4 wouldnt go in ,turns out it was the pressure sensor or selenoid.problem fix.then now 3-4 will go in every now and then and get of of gear and i have to put the car in 2.wat can this be.my tranny mech was called several places and has told him i have to reprogram my ecm or something like that?also i have a vibration problem in 3rd gear high rpms and minor in 4th.they also told him it probaly ecm tuning as well.now my question is why will ecm tuning do anything with vibration?and can tuning fix my 3-4 problems?
I'm kinda in the same boat, my trans just got rebuilt and will not shift to 3rd unless I manual shift it. If I leave it in drive on the 2-3 shift it just flashes like its in N. I can manual shift it and have 3rd and 4th but if I dont gear down at a stop I will lose 3-4 until I turn the car off and start over. I've tried the ecm therory and it didn't work, I've used 3 diffrent tuners and had the trans rebuilt 3 times. If I find out anything I will let you know, but nobody has answers so far. TTT.... might send a link to this thread to Pro-built automatics, see if one of their guys has a reply. they are the ones that helped me with mine.

ecm tuning will not cause a vibration, it will however (depending on the problem ) restore 2-3 shift if it's a tuning issue...Hope this helps.. Dave

I was having nearly the same problems with my trans. Mine would shift into 3rd and 4th but wont hold the gear. The tranny starts slipping to the point i cant use 3rd or 4th. I had the thing rebuilt twice by different companies and everytime the clutches lasted for only about 1000 miles before the trans let go again. I was told have the computer recalibrated, and also told about a mod to 96 and above 4L60E cars that has a different grounding wire setup that GM service departments were aware of. Mine is a 95 and that doesnt work. So I realize I have two options, either try a brand new transmission from some company like FLP or somewhere. The second option is to swap to T56, which now having a second F-body with a 6-speed, this is become a more desirable option.
the tranny shop found my problem already.turns out there are like 4 ring seal on the shaft were the front pump slides on and the 3 and 4 shift ones were damge,and this cause my my clutches to burn.so im glad the problem was found and now i get my car back tommorow afternoon.hope this helps someone.
well got the car back today from the shop everything is working right.the driveshaft is balance,but it looks like its been shorten. by im gonna match it to my buddy alum ls1 shaft make sure its the right size.
