Default th350 and th 400 questions and comparrions

I have some questions concerning th350's and th400's. i am currently running a th350 in my 9sec trans am. I was thinkning about going to a th400 with a trans brake and a 2.75/157 gear set. My question is how much more poewr is it to turn the 400 than the 350? and if with the brake and steeper gers will I be able to overcome the possible power loss? thanx for any help

it takes 37 hp to turn a th400,just a tad bit less for the th350,u can build a th400 cheaper and will be stouter for the money, put a pro brake in it with a good gear and let her rip

Drew...I lost no et going from the 4l60e to the th400 you got me. Actually the first gear is better...less traction issues. take into account that when i swapped, i went from a 3800 stall DOWN to a 2800 stall
And YES...drew got me an awesome th-400

I too have heard this, I have rebuilt 1 th350, and too many to count th400. I can tell you the parts in a th400 are heavier, and like you all know the heavier the part the more power is required to turn it. Since you want to use a transbrake make sure the direct clutch drum is new or in very good conditions, if you need another drum look towards a drum out of a 4L80E because the one-way bearing is a sprag unit, not a roller unit like in most th400. If you do have a sprag unit get the 36 element sprag.
