480LE Questions
I tried searching, but it isn't working correctly.
Anyways. I have a few questions about swapping a 480LE into my Formula. How much is a stock 480LE good too without being built? I'm not hard on my car, I'm generally pretty easy on, but I do get on it hard once in awhile?
Also
* How hard is it to get one in? Any structural modifications needed
* Anyone have the weight of one vs 460LE?

The 4L80E is a seriously heavy duty unit... it comes in some trucks rated around 15k lbs GVWR. It's also not cheap. Unless you're pushing some serious torque (500-600 ft/lb) through the tires and you have traction, I would stick with a built 4L60E. You will get weight savings, less parasitic loss, and a broader gear range. If a 4L60E would hold the power I am trying to make, I would go with it in a second.

this is sometimes true for various reasons. I find the search engine only works about half of the time, the rest of the time the site times out or whatever.
Anyway, when you do search, type 4l80e NOT 480le. that might be the problem.

Searching still doesn't work. It only gives me stuff from a couple days ago. Help a brotha out
BTW, some info on my project. It's going to be a twin screw whipple LS1, I'm hoping on an output of at least 550rwhp.. (maybe jumping to around 650 or on a more aggressive tune)
Will a built 4L60E hold up too this? Or am I better off with 4L80E? I'm not concerned with costs. All that matters if a weight, gearing, etc...

I am running the Whipple (Starr) Twin screw and see the atached to see what happens when you add a 120 shot of NOS. Trans has now been rebuilt for the 3rd time with all the right parts, but the 4L60E can't handle the torque

I put a 4L80e into my formula. I had to do a lot of little fabbing to get it to work, but did keep stock shifter and computer with a custom tune. I did have to pound in a small area to clear the main electrical plug. I also had the tabs on the tranny shaved off and 90 degree fittings for the cooler lines done. Search my name for a full post I did when I finished it. In stock form they are rated to 800 lbft of torque. They suck up some power and have crapier gearing than a 60e, but it holds the power fine. I got sick of pulling the tranny every other month, so having the car work all the time out weighs the negatives I listed.
