MattZ28-
A good converter will make up for the power lost in the form of torque multiplication. It might be fun shifting gears, but I like my stall.
I put in a th400 and that SUCKS horsepower even compared to the stock a4 nevermind a m6 and I still cut my times down just because of the higher stall.

One of my favorite quotes on this topic is:

Get the M6 if you want people to think you're fast. Get the A4 if you want to actually be fast.

I can't tell you how many times I have heard "why did you get an automatic in a car like this?" It's usually being asked by people who drive cavaliers, pickups/suv's or civics and my answer is always the same.

"Because I like to drag race and stalled autos rule that domain." Then I take them for a ride (if they are willing) and show them what a 2.5 STR feels like off the line and or from a 20 mph roll. They are usually impressed.

I'm removing a M6 and going to a TH400 with a 4500 nitrous stall. I'm planning on picking up a good .5 over what my granny shifting *** would do if the car hooks off the transbrake. I'm sure there's people out there that think I'm nuts for doing it.. but I want the car to run the # it should.. and I know with a stick, I'll never do it, but, when I only have to put the right foot to the floor, let go of a button to launch, and pull a lever when the shift light comes on ..... that's a differnent story Just have to hope it goes strait, or at least comes down pointing in the right direction

Low 11's on motor and a strait boot from teh track for no roll bar, here I come

I got the auto. b/c I got a decent deal on the car, and my wife was going to be driving it some. She can't/won't learn to drive a standard. I've had 2 M6's before. They were fun to drive, but I like the A4 sometimes as well.

I had a 99 Z28 a couple of years ago, it was an M6 car. I loved banging the gears, that is of course until I missed 3rd gear at the track. I now have an a4 WS6. I am a firm believer in the auto trans, just trying to get some money to do a converter. So in short, ditched the m6 and never looked back.

I get that all the time. "Oh, its an automatic?" they say. I guess they never heard of YANK, or any high stall converters.

According to your average guy my car isn't fast because, after all, it's a just a Z28 with an auto.

I cannot wait until I can afford to spray it and hide the system.

yep i get that crap all the time. Of course i try and explain what a torque converter is/does but they dont listen and have no frigin idea what it can do for a car not to mention the programming you can do to the trans to make it work the way you want it to. Seems to me that everyone thinks their Evan Smith and can run the **** out of an m6 and get great times, think again buddy.
When i got mine i was already use to the automatic with a converter and shift kit. I wanted something that i could modify(shift kit, programming, converter etc.) and still have a daily driver thats not a pain to drive in traffic and also be able to eat and drive lol... If i were to auto-x or wanted to jerk around all the time then i would get the m6 then an new clutch then a new rear.lol

Why don't you just leave it in "D" all the time?

Yeah, it's tough having a pro race driver in your car, shifting for you all the time. That's what it's like with an automatic. A pro is shifting your car for you. Never miss a shift...go home with the girl, the win, and the *grin*, every time...while the stick...is stuck...in the rear view mirror, trying to find the right gear! God, I love it!!! I love it! I love it! I love it!

A4'S RULE!!!!

When i fist bought my car i was in my last year of high school and people gave me **** for getting an auto then my friend got an m6 with more mods than me and it runs a full .1 slower in the 1/4 and its all in the 60 foot needless to say they stoped running there mouth i cant wait to hear them once i get my stall in. I cant say that people thinking autos are slow is totally a bad thing it allows for a lot of money making oppertunitys.

yeah there is one think people forgot to talk about with autos. when you are still on the stock stall with 273 geears you can pull 2nd gears like a ****. my car has a big cam and 273 gears with my limiter set at 6850 i can pull from 50-115 in about 6 seconds, just about everyone I take for a ride sits in the seat and screams for me to stop when I stomp on it from a 50mph roll.

My rock on never misses a gear and it barks my 315 DR's ripping into second thanks to a 3800 fuddle and a moser with 4.10's. And i can talk on the phone get head and eat a hamburger while smashin down the freeway.
