HELP! installing vig 3200/ remove check ball at end of input shaft?

Default HELP! installing vig 3200/ remove check ball at end of input shaft?

I am reading my instructions that came with my vig 3200, they say " remove the check ball found at the end of the input shaft. This modification allows the converter to operate with a firmer (yet not harsh) converter lock up. This is an optional modification. MAKE SURE O-RING IS INSTALLED ON INPUT SHAFT.

should I remove this check ball?

I did not remove mine. Mike (Yank) never made such a recommendation.

I have a TransGo kit installed with their fix for the converter lockup, so the clutch lockup is just right!

Don't do it. The check ball is there to equalize the pressure spikes that happen with the tranny. When you remove the check-ball, your converter can experience all kinds of funky problems with the drastic fluctuation of line pressure.

I think the instructions for the vigilante for our transmissions says to not remove the ball. I did not either way.

I installed a Trans-Go kit into a brand new GM tranny, and had it installed about a month and a half ago. I transferred over my Yank ST3800 which had never had any lockup problems since I installed it a year ago. I now have serious lockup issues! As the converter goes into lockup, it shudders badly, and once in lockup, any light throttle input will cause it to shudder.

I contacted Dana @ Pro-Built Trans., who I purchased the Trans-go kit from, and the first thing he asked me was if I had removed the check ball. I told him no, and that I have never even heard of doing that. It was not stated in the Trans-Go instructions, nor was ever mentioned by Yank. And being on these boards daily for over 3 years, you think it would have been brought up before. I have yet to contact Mike @ Yank, but I am afraid that will be my next course of action.

Is my lock-up clutch shot? The converter is still under warranty, although it will be a hassle to remove it and wait for it to be repaired. What part of the Trans-Go kit deals with the converter lockup issues? The instructions don't really specify what each modification does.

I don't see how your converter can be at fault if it had worked flawlessly for over a year. Sounds like there are transmission factors that are making it do this.

Mike,
If the converter wasn't shuddering in your other car, then it is not the converter. Sounds like your pressure is down and its not holding the lock-up clutch on. You might try putting a presure guage on it and see what it is reading at lock-up and compare it to spec.

do you have any other mods or programming done to your car?

i remember some people saying that removing the screens screws with the way the computer controls the tranny line pressure

Other mods consist of: FTRA, HPP3: No tuning, fan, rev limiter and shift points only, cutout, Direct-Flo, stock maf w/o screen.

I don't believe any of these would have an effect on line pressure.

I work at a GM dealership, so hopefully I can recruit out trany tech into hooking up a gauge and going for a test drive.
