Default ROCK, FLT, or Rossler...

hello, im in the market for a rebuild, and im looking at the 3 companies for my new trans. im leaning towards the rock cause ive heard great things about them. can you guys lead me to the right trans for my situation...alittle about my car is that it's a 2001 WS6 auto, with a V9 vortech blower, FLP longtubes and full exhaust. i have the yank ST3500 stall in it. which one would be the best for me and my car. i don't really go to the track alot, maybee 2-3 times a year, mostly street.

also i was told i should send my yank converter to get cut and cleaned. do i send the stall directly to yank? thanks for all your time

Brian

I've heard Rossler is the best...problem is he won't warranty his transmissions.
FLT, has always impressed me, and has a 6 month warranty, last time I checked. Another very reputable tranny builder, who does built 4l60e's is Century transmissions. Not real familiar with Rock-on, so don't really have an opinion.
I'm leaning toward Century transmissions for my next rebuild, but that decision is being influenced by the fact that they are in Houston, which is not so far from me.

Do you have any idea how big that company is? I would have bet that his quality control isn't very good.

I have had bad luck with the trans and its not the builders, its the trans. Its easier to bow up than a th400...

But we are seeking a 4speed, overdrive trans that will shift nice on the street while dominating.

As of right now, im looking upgrade to a trans that can hold close to over 800rwhp. Possibly on a progressive direct shot or a procharger setup. However, i want my od and 4 spds. I thnk the rock on trans will be my first choice... I really like what cablebandit has done with them and it wont hurt to see for my self.

I think that choosing anyone of these builders is gonna generate all sorts of comments, positive or negative...it is up to us to take it for what it is and make an educated decision.

Quickin:

Whats wrong with the trans? I keep having the same trans issues, i also smack the limiter but is more like the trans just lets go at the end and hits the limiter.... found out that the WHOLE trans was burnt up....low oil pressure? Had this happen once already and i fear that it maybe be happening again...

I'm also in need of a trans. What about the Dr Evil trans that Speed sells, anyone hear any good or bad on these?

I went with the 4L60E Level 4 from Finish Line Transmission (FLT)

Specs are as follows, items in bold are optional.

FLT performance pump
FLT sleeved input drum
8 B/W high-energy clutches in 3-4 pack
FLT beast shell w/bearing
B/W 29 element sprag
4L65 low roller clutch
Transgo HD-2 shift kit
Sonnax Servo
Wide 2-4 band
Bushing kit
All solenoids
Internal wire harness
Spacer plate
B/W clutches
Seal & gasket kit
Filter
Updated accumulator pistons
Set end play to performance specs
Vacuum Mod Kit

They gave me a killer deal (15% off in Jan) and it should hold a lot of power while being nice to drive on the street. Plus they are offering free shipping during February (shipping was $200 both ways for me).

You have had more problems with that superstroker than you can shake a stick at. I think your car's VIN must have 666 buried in it. I would not extrapolate from your results to any normal cars.

On a serious note, I would look at Rossler or FLP as both are close to Michigan. Shipping time and shipping costs add up, especially if you ever need warranty service.

Finish Line Transmission is one of the top transmission builders in the country when it comes to 4L60E and 4L80Es. You cant go wrong. Ive got one in my Camaro and will be getting one for my truck shortly since the stock transmission is so sloppy.

I hope you're joking!

Carl Rossler didn't get the great reputation he has by not warrantying his work.

6 months? Ha, try 12!

Get a clue and at least call the shop you're bashing to get some CORRECT info before you start making false accusations.

I'm a satisfied Rossler customer.
