Default Converter welded to input shaft

Anyone have a good idea on how to get a converter thats frozen to the input shaft off?? I unbolted the bellhousing and was beating the **** out of it to get it off.. So far its maybe moved .0000000001", give or take .0000000001" or so.. Im hoping just the coverter is screwed and not the tranny..

So let me get this straight. The trans is out of the vehicle. TC is stuck in the bellhousing. You unbolted the bolts from inside the bellhousing??? I'm a little confused. Do you have any pictures??

HUH? you don't need to unbolt the bellhousing to get the torque converter off the trans, in fact you can't.

If the TC is stuck that bad theres not much worry in ruining the trans, sounds like it's already screwed. I'd put the trans on it's back and use a prybar on each side of the converter, against the case and pop it out.

I'm picturing a transmission sitting on the floor or where ever with a torque converter in it.

Seems the problem is the converter won't come out of the trans.

Basically the shaft of the converter welded itself to the inner pump ring. We tore the tranny down and the pump is FUBAR'd.. I'm hearing different stories on how this happened- one being over heated and the other from the converter not being seated all the way onto the pump (which I dont see how the tranny would even bolt up given that situation). Besides the pump, the only other component that was damaged was the front drum had a little scarring on it..

The TC was not all the way in (the trans. will still bolt up to engine) and pump drive spun on TC snout causing lots of friction/heat.

I dont get how the trans will bolt up this way though.. There is at least a half inch tab that converter has to slide into.. The only way I can see it going in is if the tranny was pulled into the motor using the bolts, which when theis tranny went in, it mated with the engine no problem and had no gaps before the bolts were put in....

When installing TC you must ensure 3 engagements:
1. turbine shaft into turbine,
2. stator shaft into stator,
3. TC snout into pump drive.

When TC is all in, distance from trans. bell housing to front of TC tab is 1".
Distance from engine block surface to rear of flexplate is about 0.8".
So there is a gap, which you then take up (after bolting bellhousing to block) by pushing the TC forward to the flexplate and intall TC bolts.

If this wasn't done like this, TC is not in and pump drive will spin and damage.

And may also damage thrust surface of crank thrust bearing in engine.
