I'm sure there's people that have been lucky and have had them stay together, and if you guys have, great, good for you I'm happy to hear it..... but again.. if you want to race your car, put parts in it meant for the task, not parts that are meant for daily use.

How may cars are in the 9's with a 4l60E, or even an 80E for that matter? how many with Th400's? If that 4l60E was such a great tranny, then I think you'd see more cars in that speed range with them.. there s good reason why you don't, I rest my case.

SUX2BU had his tranny done by John Goebel out of Waco, Texas. I just had my TH350 built by John too with the 3.05 1st gear I believe. I am about to convert mine this weekend. I too have a 4L60E with vacuum modulation fully built and it is now starting to give so I am jusy converting over to The TH350 to not have the problem again. My car is also daily driven.

Texas gets kinda hot too, but sweating helps me loose weight. The less i weigh the faster my car goes.
I actually put myself on a diest last year JUST to make my car faster. lost aboput 50 lbs.

John Goebel in Waco and it has held uip BEATIFULLY!. I absolutely LOVE this tranny. I daily drive it 90+ miles a day with the non lock up 5100 stall. When i actually get a chance to go to the track i hot lap the **** out of it and the temp never gets over 210*. The only times i let it cool off a little is when i hot lap it on the trans brake. i have to let it cool for about 10 min if i do that.
I belive i paid around $1100-$1200 th350 with transbrake but that also included him dyno testing it. He has a really cool set up in his shop. He said it could handle about 600 hp. for another $350-$450 (can't remember) he could make it hold over 1,000 hp (upgraded sprag) but i'm going to stay N/A so 600 hp is fine with me.

BTW Goebel is THE coolest tranny guy ever. He'll give it to you straight. He will tear down the tranny right infront of you and tell you whats fucked up and what caused it to **** up.
He does all this on the side. his main job is an instructor at some Waco technical college. He teaches stuff like advanced hydrolics.(not the low rider stuuf)

JL now your off topic, yes a 400 can handle more than a 60E. But you said it cant handle 400hp and I disgaree(know for a fact). now an 803 is basically a 400 with OD. They are pretty dam tough themsleves.

Yeah, but Sux, your comments don't count, since it's quite clear that you're not normal ... Seriously, though, although I've never gotten close to that extreme, I did drive old Pontiacs with no air, no OD, no radio or AM only, on a daily basis for years ... which is why I appreciate all the niceties my modern Formula offers. Each to his own ...

...and for that 8 second 4L80E, how much $$ was spent? The 4L80E is based on the TH400 trans. Now, if you want to spend the extra $2-3000 for OD, cool. That could add up to a nice set of other upgrades to the car.

..my $0.02

Yeah, I picked mine up last week from John and it ran me $1260.00 with the spacer and the 3.05 first gear.

I'll tell you this, there are not too many local shops anywhere that know what they are doing when it comes to these trannys. I see this happen all the time, even if she was putting down 400rwhp it should have lasted alot longer. The point is the tranny shop does not know how to build it properly. With a good tranny cooler, you should have had no problems. I've been through this too, different tranny though, paid for a rebuild...actually two and the shop never got it right. It was frustrating as hell, come to find out this guy was a joker and was screwing people left and right. I had a friend that had his ls1 trans rebuilt extremely cheap because he had the hook up, the only hard parts he bought were under $300(clutches,etc...) He was putting down 390rwhp and beat the **** out of it for over 1000 passes and it never skipped a beat. The first time he had it rebuilt it never worked right, so he took it to a friend of his and he said the previous tranny builder had no idea what he was doing it looked like. It just goes to show that you don't have to put big bucks into it if built properly and not running big hp.
what he said^^ most of the times in these cases its more about "if you want it done right do it yourself" but obviously everyone isnt willing to bring down their tranny and start rebuilding it...everyones situation is different..for example i put in my own shift kit..not a big deal but i know it was done right andf how it works..whenever my tranny goes ill do the same...jus buy high performance clutches and everything and rebuild it..im jus lucky i have the time for it and the friends to help me with it as well, either way good luck with everything..hope all turns out well

Please point out these "many FLP lvl 4's have broken on this site".

Chuck formerly of FLP before he started FLT his own transmission company, is one of the best 4L60E builder in the country if not the best. I would put his transmission against anyones, he is constantly changing his parts line up with better and better equipment. Failures with any transmission can be attributed to alot of things, improper installation, abuse, improper application(too much power), and other parts failures outside the transmission such as converter failure. Chuck has many customers with his transmissions that make lots of power quite a few fbodies and Corvettes making 600 to almost 800 rwhp.
