What do I need to do with the wires that went to the Black shift lock solenoid on the a4 shifter? Also, what do you guys do with the grey cable that used to go to the shifter and what is that?

Thanks!

I just unplugged the stock shifter, and unbolted it, replacing with a Pro Ratchet from B&M. The gray rod isnt needed with an aftermarket shifter, nor is the shiftlock stuff. I tucked the cable up under the carpet underneath the dash (far forward and center). GL

Awesome. Everything is going great otherwise. This damn APE motor is finally in the car Charlie. We'll see if I have the same luck you do

How much did that run you so far $$$
And could you list all the parts used in the swap.
Perhaps a little write up ??
I'm contemplating the same.

Predator, for swapping from 4L60E to a 350 (or 400) you'll need:
Shifter, your choice, but you can use the stock one if you dont need a lock out ( I just prefer to be safer and use a lockout with the RMVB). Dont forget the cable. I used a B&M ProRatchet, fits nice and works great. $150-500 your choice.

Flexplate, get a TCI or ATI Billet Steel Dual Bolt Pattern. $200-265.

Converter, your choice, but with flexplate mentioned, you can go without the spacer needed when using a 98 flexplate. Several companies offer TC's for this conversion, such as Yank, Fuddle, Vig, TCI, ATI, NCRC, Continental.... $350-1,200.

Crossmember, Yank or BMR. I went BMR, got the one to relocate the stock Torque Arm, then later cut off the TA mount when I got an aftermarket TA, very nice piece too. $200

350 with 9" tailshaft housing, lets you reuse the stock Driveshaft. Not sure on the 400's. Also, Rossler sells a Tailshaft housing with the VSS Bung welded in, so the speedo work flawlessly. Easy install too. Housing is about $150 from Rossler.

Cooler, get as large as you can fit if you dont already have one. $50-300

Lastly the trans. Your choice of builder. I went Rossler, Terminator II TH350, with Transbrake, RMVB. Got it used in the for sale section here. Mine new would be $1400. But again, I got all the above listed (except the Xmember) for $1600 shipped.

There is more room to work around with the TH350 compared to the 60E, or 400. It is lighter (unless you buy a race prepped lightweight 400).

Please let me know how the engine does. Mine hasn't given me any issues....holding breath, knocking on wood.
Good luck.

Charlie

Thats good news. Hopefully it stays that way. I thought I was haivng some issues with looseness inside, but then I put her on a lift, and funny enough, you can hear every lifter and rocker in motion through the large 1 7/8" primaried Kooks, and all the way down the pipes, echoing off like nothing before. Didnt seem to have that issue with smaller coated headers. Weird.

Thanks Charlie,
I think I will do some shopping to put it all together,
FLT is giving me a nice deal to rebuild my level 4 to a level 5, but since the car is mostly track now, I feel I should just go for the gutso and head the TH350/400 way.

I have a month to think about it.
