which shift kit?
well, im looking to get a transgo shift kit in my gto, but which one do i want? i notice theres 3 of them. either SK4l60E (shift kit), 4L60E-HD2 (reprograming kit), or 4L60E-psk (performance shift kit). i cant figure it out, and all the trans places around here are closed now till monday. does anyone have any idea?
also, is the 4L60E-HD2 a kit that lets you keep the auto shifts?

The Reprogramming kit & the Performance Shift kit use the same parts, except that the Reprogramming kit has a HD clutch spring pack that requires that the transmission be disassembled. The video (out of date) comes with the Performance Shift kit. The instructions are what you want to go by.

yea, i found the HD clutch spring pack under everything else. i dont plan on doing that at all, unless i rebuild the tranny from the ground up later on.
the reason i ask this is cause i bought the HD2 kit today and the guy at the trans shop wasnt too sure about its fitment, and thats when i found the other part numbers. i just wanted to make sure i had the right one.
also, which part is the pressure regulator? the guy that answered the phone at transgo said that it was changed and to not mess with it. i cant find it on the install sheet. is it refered to as something else?

The hd-2 kit will work just fine when properly installed and calibrated. As far as the pressure regulator it is the valve located in the same bore as the boost valve. Look at the directions again it will show you the boost valve and pressure regulator spings. That should explain it. Good luck...

thanks for the info. i just got done installing it. wasnt too bad, just made some dumb mistakes on my part that cause it to take longer. all and all, id say the kit was pretty easy. the only thing i didnt do was the thing on the outside (i forget its name, the servo i think). it was too hard to get to without the tranny removed, which i wasnt gonna do since im going to be installing a converter in a few weeks.
also where can i get that metal piece to replace that plastic cover on the outside of the trans? i might as well replace it while i have it off.
the kit seems to shift pretty quick with light throttle, but not head jerking quick. i like it the way it is, but i might see about putting that third washer in after i replace the torque converter

As far as I know there is no larger boost valve than the one from Trans-Go. Adding a 3rd spacer can make the part throttle shifts too short, which is not good for the gear train. Even in my transmissions that are in the 10's, I add no more than "one" spacer.

i wasnt looking for a bigger one, just a metal one. i thought i read that most people replace that plastic part with and aftermarket metal one, usually cause they brake it. i think its called the servo, but im not sure. its the cover on the right, outside part of the trans.
ill look at the instructions when i go back to the garage

As far as billet servos it depends on how you set up the rest of the trans as far as hole sizes in the seperator plate, etc. As far as a shift kit goes thats about as far as you could have went.
I experimented with mine to the point that I had to get a new plate and start over.
But now my shifts are firm enough with the stock 093 servo that a billet second would be overkill IMO plus it could break a stock band. Now the fourth might be a good idea.
There is no plastic servo cover that I know of. The only plastic stuff was the 1-2 accumulator piston and the forward accumulator piston. And BTW before you order these you need to remove them and look at the pin size so you know what aluminum ones to get, or get the pinless ones.
Getting the servo done right (the stuff under the cover on the side of the trans) takes some judgement, it doesn't help that the instructions are kind of vague. It says add shims until the band wiggles 1/8" or more. Personally if you get no pause of any kind during the 2-3 shift at all throttle positions, and you are going to have a tough time getting the cover and servo out (floor pan clearance) I'd leave it alone.

FLT does offer a sonnax 2nd servo that does have more apply surface area for the band. Although it still uses the OEM cusion and accumulation of standard servo's. IMO I love it. Take a quick look at it.....http://www.finishlinetrans.com/parts/GM4L60Servo.htm

well, i think ill leave the washer alone then. i dont have that much done to the trans, so i dont wanna mess it up.
does anyone know how much more holding power (percentage wise) the transgo springs in the servo are over stock? the ones im looking at are 18, 35 and 40 over the vette (which, i dont know how much more it it than mine). im thinking about maybe getting the 18 intermediate, then the HP overdrive (4th) servo if these will work out better than the trangso springs
also, thanks for all the replies. this is really helping for a guy that doesnt know much about transmissions.
