Tranny Smart Guys, POWERGLIDE ? Okay i am currently running a TH350 that was built to handle 750 HP>>.. 500 all motor 250 shot of nitrous..im there..
Here is my question.. All the big dogs run powerglides at the track.. has anyone run a powergluide in a F body? What needs to be done to make this work that didnt need to be done for a TH350 or TH400?
I if i blow this tranny this season, id like to start thinking about other options.. I am welcome to opinions on this..

Give Eastside a call.. they have gone thru the Th350 to Th400 to glide on many of their cars, and know when it's time to go to the next level. Sean or Ken can for sure tell you what else needs to be done to swap from a Th350 to a glide.

How heavy is your car?
How much power do you plan on making?
Basically, If you don't plan on running well into the nines don't bother.
That is the kind of power to weight ratio you need to be looking at before you start considering a Glide.
Up to that point you are better off with the T-350.
Yes, the T-400 is stronger, but it takes more HP to turn it and it is just plain heavier.
The T-350 built properly, can take you reliably into the 9's no problem.

T350 is fine for n/a stuff.. but if you are hitting it with nitrous.. I'd think twice about using ine. Yes they can be a reliable 9 second tranny setup, but the forces that a tranny sees when nitrous is being used... they don't like that. Talk to Eastside about it, they've had th350's, th400's and glides in all their race cars over the years.. and the 400 for nitrous use is a way better deal then a 350 is, unless you like taking the tranny out.

Yeah see that what i just did was have it freshened up and my tranny builder pretty much told me i was pushing it.. Just thinking about the future.. I will talk to them..

The reason you see so many Power-Glide trannies at the track is for a few reasons. One with the shallow first gear set it tends to settle the car down a good bit on the launch. Two is that they have less reciprocating mass and thereby don't take a much HP to turn. Three only having one gear change and can make it more efficient depending on the rest of the setup. Four they are somewhat lighter but that is a minor concern as compared to the others. I have run a couple of glides in a few different (N2O) street/strip cars and heard all the myths about car weight and the like but with today’s parts and builders I have yet to run into any of those problems with the ones I have run in the past. I liked them allot for something that was primarily a track car or just tooling around town. I REALLY liked the way it settled my Mustang down and kept it from standing up so much with the ladder bars. No other swap other than the trans and it picked up not only ET from settling down but MPH as well. Hope this helps.
