Default street only

are stalls worth getting for street only use? i use only street tires and wont consider drag radials where i live because of weather.. having said that, i also dont go to the track at all. im thinking about getting a stall but all the info here is restricted to people who do both street and track (or only track)driving. but what about for those of us who drive on the street only... will a stall increase overall performance (say from dead stop and rolling acceleration)? is it worth getting even with the risks of burning up my trans (stock with 80k).. i know there are more factors (stall rating, STR, how sticky my tires are, other mods etc...) but assume in general. thanks!

An aftermarket converter is the best money you can spend to enhance the performance of your car. For street use stay with a converter in the 2800 to 3200 range. It will NOT burn up your transmision. Just remember to add a tranny cooler at the same time you install the converter.

All converters are going to put more "wear and tear" on your transmission. They will not "Burn up" your tranny if you put the proper cooling on them, but the 4l60e doesnt last forever. Mine went out at 100k and I got a fully built tranny in its place and couldnt be happier.

If you race on the street, a converter is awesome. I would get the SS3600 (what I have). Your around-town gas milage wont be as good but highway stays the same.

Get a BIG tranny cooler, and a transgo shiftkit (in my opinion). Keep enough money saved back for a new transmission when it breaks. (even if you dont get a converter).

a stall is the best upgrade for an auto car.
get something along the lines of a 3000 rpm stall.

People are so damn anxious to tell you to get the 3600+. With street tires, on a daily driver that doesn't go to the track I think that's too big. I am saving for a 3200 myself because dishing out money for a TC/cooler is one thing, but TC + Cooler + expensive sticky tires (that need to be replaced more often than stock ones) = too much money for me at this stage of my life.

So even though I'm not a TC owner, based on your situation I'd say a tame 3000~ stall is just what you're looking for.

i'd still recomend a 3600 for a daily driver honestly. You will just end up getting one later anyway.. If its a mostly track car, get a 4000...

Just my 2 cents

Without drag radials, a stall is not likely to increase performance from a dig because you will not be able to hook up. Even from a roll you can blow off street tires. This is the case with my 3000 stall with 3.42's. Drag radials are essential for traction in first.

I just ordered a 3200 2.1 for my Daily Driver... I only will use it for the street, no track... I'll see how it goes... It also depends what rear gears you have, I have 3.23 so 3000-3200 I thought would be best for me...

you will annihilate your tires on the street. for a "street" only application i'd leave the stock converter installed.

your car will suck ***** from a dig on the street with radials. i spin tires from a 50 roll and i'm barely even considered a bolt-on car. but i do have a 4k stall...

So I wasted my money getting a 3200 stall for the street?

if you plan on racing from a dig, yes. probably from a <20 roll, too.

when i had my stock converter i would DEAD HOOK on the street and at the strip. i was cutting 2.0x 60s at any given time.

you will be HARD PRESSED to cut another 1.9x 60' with a 3200 stall and radials. if you'd like to try, you're going to need a lot more suspension...adj. torque arm, sub-frames, adj. shocks, etc...

My friend has a 3800 Stall on a Z28 with L/T True Duals, intake lid, and 3.42s and My stock WS6 put an *** beating all over his car due to his **** *** traction. Personally Im sticking with a stock torque converter cause my car is street only till its paid off.

Now I'm concerned I made a mistake... I wanted performance with a stall not lack of performance... I know it is hard to launch with a stall on street tires, but I thought it was better from a roll and better throughout the shifts if properly tuned..

to be totally honest...i did not notice any improvement from my shift extension. my buddy has an 00 b4c that i always use as the "bar", and the only thing my converter did for me was get me ahead of him from 0-50. from a 50 roll he pulled the same after the converter as he did before the converter.

you can have that stall put in and try it for yourself, but personal experience AND reading experiences of others tells me that high(er) stall converters and street tires don't play together well.

when my car trapped 80 in the 1/8 i could totally annihilate the tires through 2nd gear (like literally 100' worth of rubber going wot from an idle). but the car was still slower than **** through a funnel in the middle of january, so the only thing i did was hurt myself if i tried to play on the street.

it always sucked to mention "4k stall" to someone on the street when i BARELY pulled them. stalls get no love on the street. however, i bought it for the track, so with any luck i'll be yanking some tire off the line come sunday afternoon.

If you don't have gears get a higher ratio 3.73s and start there. If they are not enough get the stall. I loved my gears and they went great with a nice tune, but like everything else I got a cam and a stall as the next upgrade so I can't let you know what the stock motor and gears with a stall would be like, but from a 30 mph roll I was able to spin the tires with just 320rwhp and the stock stall/3.73s. Now from 40 I can spin them.

So if you have 2.73s I would suggest getting the 3.73s and save some coin. Cause I would imagine that with the install you could get it all done for under $500 where you will not be able to get a stall for that.

no man..you didnt make a mistake..youll be able to race from a dig on the street youll just have to learn how to get it out of the hole ..your not goin to be able to just punch it.. feather it out and youll still be faster than the stock stall...believe me..my 3200 stall was the best mod ive done to my car..and its strictly a DD as well...now put it in and tell us how you like it!

What slimcraka said +1.
You will have to re-learn how to launch your car from the hole, but once you do, watch out!
You will be amazed at the difference a stall make's.

Thanks man... I'm glad to hear that from a daily driver w/ a 3200 stall. I guess once you get use to it. After I get it installed and tuned I'll let you know...

Well, traction will be more of a problem off the line, but remember it will help in roll races, espcially from 30-50ish where the dead spot used to be.
