Here's mine, a Hayden (whatever the biggest they had
at Pep Boys was). I used a stick of that snap-in shelving
support, cut & bent, for support struts.

Just curious what your engine temps are with the cooler right there in the path of airflow to radiator?

The air has plenty of opportunity to flow around the
trans cooler, where it is now. I used to have it mounted
right to the rad, where it would impede airflow to a
pretty large portion of the fins (and vice versa, the
series stack favors neither). The cooler occupies the
center 1/4 - 1/3 of the opening. The heat it sheds
does mix with the rest of the air and pass through the
rad, no way around that unless you locate it out back
somewhere. I was thinking about that but couldn't
find any room in the axle arch for that plus the fans
it'd need.

I'd have to go back to the logs for an exact number, but
it's pretty stable at 195F or so, even across a hard pull.
But my setup is not normal, LT1 rad and fans on early.

I also looked at alot of options to install my 2 coolers. I ended up mounting them opposite sites of the car (almost typical dope style). The 2 coolers are partially blocking the pathway for air to the radiator and I also have a ssra in front of the radiator so im wondering if theres not enough breathing room.
I monitored the trans and coolant temps from the pcm yesterday. I drove the car about 30-45min. While at the drive through idling for 5 min coolant temps would rise to 230f and fans would cool to 21xf and then repeat again. This is here in CT 65f rainy weather. Trans temp got 160f highest with stock stall.
But keep in mind I have the stock t stat with stock fan settings. So im thinking maybe the addition of a 160 t stat and setting different fan settings ill be able to keep the coolant where it should be (190-200f) for warmer seasons. Then in colder seasons switch bad to stock settings to keep the coolant and oil temps right.

Its been raining like a bastard here in ct but in a couple days when its gone ill get some pics.

I'd set the fans for low speed on/off right below your
thermostat-controlled ECT, and high speed right above
(see the real pivot temp as highway cruise temp, A/C
off).

Be sure to blow out the radiator and condenser fins
periodically. These "bottom feeder" cars suck up a lot
of debris.

Necro-sorry

I see BMR 24k repeatedly referred to, is it this one?

I can't find one that has 24000 BTUs so I'm guessing that is correct.

24000 is the GVW and 14000 is the btu. Yes thats the one and I am using one.
I run mine around the radiator area with no ac condenser in the way.

Thanks, trying to knock out some of the smaller, "hidden" costs of a converter install which I am planning for next summer.

You can find that cooler cheaper on other sites. I've never seen it $75 before.
