stock ls1 w/ stall converter
is it safe to put an aftermarket stall converter in a stock auto ls1? is it worth the money or should this step be taken after the basic bolt-ons (lid/ lt / ory /)?

I would do it first, hell I can see you dropping .5+ off of your et with a new converter. I would go with around a 3500 stall depending on your driving habits. Do stall, tranny cooler, shift kit, lid catback. With some sticky tires and a tune I could see you getting mid-lower 12s. Good Luck

Do it. You could see mid 12s with sticky tires and a good converter alone.
I'd go with Fuddle. You can't beat their service or pricing.
I got a Performance Series 4000 stall with 2.2 STR for $400 shipped. They don't have that deal anymore and now its $400+shipping
With full bolt ons--those being LT headers, ORY, LS6 intake and lid, underdrive pulley, 3.73 gears and a good stall converter-- I have seen A4s in the 11s with sticky tires.
If you go with Fuddle, the money you save could get you a set of 3.73s or some headers or something. You can find pretty good deals in the "For Sale" section on headers and intakes, but I'd get a new converter. Good luck and have fun!
EDIT: Definately do a tranny cooler with the stall install!

You're going to need a tune also.
I went from 13.5s to 12.5s by just adding a Yank 4000 and a set of M/T ET Streets. Had a lid also. Everything else was stock. Added Headers and true duals, dropped to 12.2s and picked up 4 mph. Add a 100 shot, 11.3s!!! Converter should be one of the first mods you do.

I just orderd an yank. I was waiting to get a stall since the sy3500 came out the first time....yeah, that long.
You can say im nuts, but i had alot of $hit to pay for since then. I would of got it alot sooner, but i had no choice.
