First, don't forget the cooler lines.

Take off the lid and bellows.

Pull down on rear of trans. so engine tilts on motor mounts;
got poly's... loosen the mount bolts a little.

Use two long extensions (20" each) or a long and medium extension (20" + 10") and reach from the rear of trans to bell housing bolts; do the top ones first, leave the easier ones for last; one of them holds fill tube, pull this before lowering trans.

jack the front of the engine so it will tilt the tranny down just a little. go from the right side of the tranny, near the tailshaft, and youll get it sooner or later. circumstances just have to be right. I got my top bolt back in in about a minute.
use a 3/8 short socket and swivel with about 2.5-3ft of extensions. a magnet fitting in the socket helps keep the bolt from falling and helps you direct it to the hole

Yeah lowering the back of the tranny as mentioned above is how you gain access to them. I had 2 24 inch extensions and 1 12 inch extension. I used a piece of blue shop paper towel in the joints to stabilize them a bit more and use a short socket on the end of the swivel cause a deep socket will flop around more. It just takes a little time bro. Best thing to do when you get to a point you can't get past is take a break and reposition yourself under the car.

I use every extension I own to get to the top 2 bolts. Its 5 extensions of different sizes. This gives you some play in it so you can get the socket all the way on the bolt easier.
I have done this enough times now I can remove or install the top 2 in about 5 minutes. Its the 2nd one up on the driver side that gives me fits.
Especially with an ultrabell.
