Default TCI 3000 review

I have just got through installing my TCI 3000 TC.

The car definatly feels loose around town, when you press the gas pedal it revs up a bit more then goes.

When I reverse it fell like the parking brakes on cause it doesn't move until you give it a lot more gas.

When you floor it it revs right up and it hauls ***

I tried a few lauches and building the revs to about 2,000 rpm then flooring it I fishtailed away for about 20 feet or so laying lots of rubber. It never did that before!

Gas mileage I have just used a tank of gas and I'm getting the same as before the TC install.

I say the biggest difference is how the car feels the standard TC with any touch of the gas responds and feels tight but the High Stall TC feels loose around town and there's like more reving before anything happens.

I have a quiet exhaust so I don't notice that there more roar from the V8

This good because I'm getting into the power band of the motor.

I went for the TCI 3000 as I got it secondhand and cheap £150 ($250 new from USA to UK would be $700) from a guy in the UK who has pulled his LS1 and 4L60e and gone a different route. Used LS1 performace parts are thin on the ground in the UK cause not many are modded yet!

The difference could be in you guys' gearing, 2.73 vs 3.23?

It feels loose compared to the stocker but tight compared to most other aftermarket converters.

I can see why some people have reservations about running a stall above 3500rpm on the street as the car feels totally different, I'm not sure I would like it to feel any looser than it does now!

I am going to the track this weekend so I will see what the car feels like there, I must admit I must be one of the few people who prefer the way the car drives with the stock TC around town!

Each to his own, but I wouldn't want to drive anything bigger on a daily basis either. Mine's been in for over a year, and there are occasionally times when it still feels loose to me. One of the tricks is to give it enough throttle to feel good. Really light throttle just feels sluggish. A little more and it just rips along, the rpms don't drop between shifts, no dead spots - wonderful! Another reason never to go back to stock is the lighter weight. The 1-2 shift would kick my rear way out with the stocker, and I'd be going down the track sideways. It's seamless now with the TCI verter.

Default UpDate on TCI3000 at the track

I ran the car today at Shakespeare County raceway 1/4 mile drag strip.

I did five runs 13.5 being the worst and 13.36 102mph being the best.
My 60ft went from 2.08 to a best of 1.94 although it was 1.97 on the best e/t time of 13.36.

I never had any problem getting the car to hook up and I found the best results were from flashing the converter off the line got me the 1.94 60ft time whuch is ok for street tires.

Although I don't have any pre TCI3000 times because I havn't been to the track before with this car. it should run 13.8 stock with the A4 and 2.73's.

So almost a half a second gain with the TC install is not bad. I noticed I am now hitting the rev limiter in 2nd gear so I need to reduce the mph for the second gear change so I may be loosing a fraction there.

So when I get the LT's install I should be knocking on the door of the 12's without the spray.

I did try to spray the car today but due to either a blocked or faulty Nitrous solonoid I have no Nitrous runs. I would have had some 12's with that working. Because I tried the Nitrous on the way to the track with the Gtech and got a 12.59 at 115mph.

I did try the Gtech at the track to compare it to their timing and I found it was reading about .2 of a second fast and about 5 mph fast. So it's a good indicator of what I should be running.

Default Mph

Any of you guys who are running TCI 3000 have 1/4 times, mph is what I need. I am more than heppy with my 13.36 E/T but 102 mph I was expecting much higher!

My 95 Z29 Lt1 ran 13.89 102mph. how can I be 1/2 second quicker and still be running 102mph?

I read in GM HITECH mag that a stall can slightly lower your mph for the 1/4 mile.

I was browsing on here yeaterday and came across a guy who had a before and after TC 1/4 times and he dropped from 105mph to 102mph so I suppose it's not a problem.

The important thing is it now runs 13.3 with the stall as it should

When I get my headers on maybe I will hit a high 12.

If it helps I went 13.2 @ 109 with just full exhaust and lid; then I did the converter and cam at the same time and it dropped to 11.87 @ 113. So it is a great converter because I know the cam alone didn't drop the e.t. by almost a second and a half

Default update

I did the headers install today at my buddies workshop using a proper 2 post ramp and an air racket. It went very well and I can't believe how much easier the job was with the proper facilities. The install guide I down loaded said 5-12 hours using car ramps and axle stands at home.

We di it in 3 1/2 hours and test drive aftre wards perfect, no exhaust leaks or Y pipe touching under the car also no ground cleareence issues.

Funny thing my car sounds exactly the same as it did before. I have a quietnes pack on the exahust with a single outlet. I could feel the car feels more responsive in the mid range. I have a twin outlet exhaust to fit yet.

I now need to get back to the track to see how this beast performs!

Sounds good, i've used the G-Tech before too and mine is dead on. It was within .1 compared to actual track runs, but the MPH reads 6mph too high because its your actual speed at the end of 1320ft and a track takes it differently.

Yes your right the track takes the last 60ft and reads your speed over that last 60ft. I found it to be about 5mph to fast compared to the track. I had a weak solonoid in when I ran the Gtech time of 12.59 @115mph and only 75hp jets.

Silly thing is I forgot to turn the traction control off! I was kinda blown away by the time it ran though!
