Default Getting 4l60e refreshed, what should I have done to it while it's under the knife?

My friend's Uncle is the GM instructor at this college and he's doing the class for the 4L60E rebuild and they are gonna use my tranny.

I have been having problems with it... when in 3rd (manually) and sometimes in D, when going 70MPH and I floor it, the tranny downshifts, but pauses, hits the rev limiter...then shifts back into 3rd and goes.

From a stop and WOT I get no hesitation or anything, but I'm sure it will come eventually.

So, should I have them just rebuilt it back with all GM OEM stuff, or should I give them aftermarket parts?

He said something about stacking the clutches a little higher?? but i have no clue what exactly that will do.

I wish i had the $$$ for a Vig or something to put in there while it's out, but oh well.

Have them replace the clutch packs and bands. you can use extra clutch packs, especially those for the 2-3 and 3-4 shift as they go bad first.

Alto Red Eagle makes good aftermarket stuff, although he may want to use the GM stuff for obvious reasons.

I'd see if he would put in a mild shift kit too while it is apart. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

As far as other parts go, it depends upon what he finds and how much you want to spend.

Part of your downshift at 70 issue may be programming. If you joined the Jason Edit pool, you can alter the downshift.

you mean the 300 per person thing for the 10 people?

I didn't have 300 at the time and no-one knew when edit for 2001 would be out.

is there a way to tell if it is the clutch packs or if it's just programming????

If they are going to rebuild use Raybestos blue clutches and kevlar bands. have him replace all the steel with Kolene steel. That is a start.
Speed inc.
Has a good list of what to change on their site. Go to their catalog and under transmissions.
