Default TH400 leaking problems....HELP.....

I had this TH400 Trans installed by a local installer, we have tried EVERYTHING to stop the thing from dripping...it leaks from the front and the back of the trans pan, if I put the car on rhino ramps it leaks from the back, if I level it off it leaks from the front in the back...the first pan that was on there was the original pan, it didn't leak at first, but then started, then we put a chrome pan on there with RTV sealent, it still leaked, then they put an expensive aluminum pan on there with a rubber gasket and it still leaked, then we tried the same aluminum pan with a rubber gasket and silicone...It didn't leak for them, but as soon as I started driving it and got it home it started to leak again...this is starting to become a nightmare for the both of us...

Any ideas that anyone can come up with to stop this? I can deal with it because its only a 5" by 5" puddle every morning, but if it can be stopped I would like it to...

Thanks,
Bos

Go back to the older thread and see if you've tried any of the things i told you

you should be using NO RTV and be using a cork gasket put up DRY or possibly use some spray red rtv stuff

With the RTV, did you let it dry for a good long time before filling with fluid again? This has happened to me, though not on a tranny. I usually try to dry RTV over night before I use it with alot of fluid contacting it, especially under any pressure. Hope this might help.

One thing that people do that is a big error is overtightening the bolts in the pan. Just put them good and snug. Too tight and the gasket squeezes out of place/cracks.
Check you tranny for a defect if you notice it coming from the same spot each time.

Big bos, any regrets going with the TH400? Wish you still had the 6 speed?

A 5x5 puddle everyday is a lot, in my opinion.

no regrets at all, its AWESOME and more and more people are starting to do it...that 5" puddle is probably like 10-15 drops, it spreads around pretty good..

Well I didn't want to mention it, I was the first car hes ever done this conversion to, its not a problem, its just annoying...

Tom and the guys over at Speed Inc. are the greatest, they have tried a lot to fix this problem and now were are thinking its a defect in the actual case of the trans, so we might swap...who knows...
