Unhappy tranny heating up.

was wondering if may be anybody here would have an idea as to what's up.
my complete mod list is in sig.

the tranny cooler *does not* go through the radiator. its only being cooled by the 24k cooler

during normal driving, on the highway - it is fine. i see temps of 160 degrees while just cruising.

during normal driving, on the street - it is not fine. temp goes up indefinitely, if i let it. if i just stand around in a traffic jam or something - within 10 minutes i see temps of 220 degrees.

if i've been driving for a bit now, and my temp is 180 degrees - and i go up a hill or something for 1,000ft - my temp will also be around 220 degrees once i'm at the top of the hill.

...

fluids are new, filters are new, cooler works, everything in the sig was installed professionally by TTP (a sponsor here) ...

Might want to go to a bigger cooler. You can also get a thermostatically controlled fan to put on it from summit. It may cost 200 for a kit with cooler and fan, but a lot cheaper than a rebuild on the tranny.

I wouldn't recommend a Permacool trans cooler, fan or not. I bought one that had an all aluminum design. It didn't seem to cool that well, and was leaking. You have be extra carefull with an all aluminum trans cooler.
I currently run a B&M 24,000 and a B&M 29,000 with a fan on it. I haven't driven it in real hot weather yet, but it should keep the trans within a good operating temperature.

We could go with the 24k GVW with the electric fan... Problem is mounting it in a good location.

was also thinking about a deeper pan, also - to hold more fluid.. not sure if it'd make us lose clearance though - looked pretty big
what's the problem with mounting it where the current one is? and would it be possible / beneficial to run both at the same time? sorry if it's stupid questions

By the way, what are acceptable operating temps?

Never know if you may be freaking out over something normal...

i do not smash the fun pedal when the temp is 200 degrees.

i let the tranny cool down when it reaches 220 degrees (usually 10 mins after it reaches 200 ... )

when it is at that point, it takes it about 2 mins to reach 240 but i did not let it reach this temp for awhile now.
