How much power can a Stock 4l60e handle?
How much hp is my stock tranny good for??
How much hp would my 4l60e be good for if it was built?
How much does it normally cost to build a stock tranny?
Last but not least, should I wait til my tranny goes before having it built?
All input welcomed

depends on traction and usage
you could have 1000 hp on a car that dosent hook and it might hold up and at the same time people are blowin theirs in stock form
on average (no flames please) id say 400-450 rwhp with moderate usage but really its a crapshoot so dont rely on that figure
finally rebuilds cost between 1200 and 2500 depending on bulider and parts and i would definately wait until yours blows or atleast starts to slip before spending the cash .....
just ot give you an example my buds nearly stock 00 hawk with 25k miles has a blown tranny and he dont do much raceing while my h\c stalled car on a full suspension with a sticky tire has had the last 23k miles beat out of it and the tranny still running strong .. both of our cases seem to be rareitys but it just goes to show you the possibilities

Well, mind was holding up good with stock motor and some bolt-ons. Now, 2 weeks after my H/C set up, it just took a **** on me. So, no need in spending 4-500 bucks on anthother stocker when you know its gonna go out again (sooner then later). I just did some phone calls and Rock-On Transmission (the guy I talked too) sounded cool and can save me some money as I all ready have the HD shift kit, 3-4 clutch paks, and some stiffer springs still sitting in the box. So, he said send'em too me and will cut you a deal.

i just ordered a rock-on about a month ago, my trans lost 3rd at WOT among other things while the car was still stock. i figure if you plan on modding, just factor the cost of a new trans in just in case, although chances are it will die, you might luck up. but if not atleast you already had the money to fix it. my trans came to $2281.

Some last in guys running 11-second cars, but others don't last much past minor mods. Kinda hit or miss like the stock 10-bolt.
Naturally, the more power you start putting through it, the quicker it's going to give up.

I probably should have been more specific. Im going to have a turbo on it here in the near future. The car will see 450-500rwhp normal, and prob 500-550rwhp here and there. Car is not a daily driver. I will not be running slicks on it as well. I know it will go eventually. Can I have my stock tranny built to hold 550rwhp normal, and eventually see 600-700rwhp???

A 600 to 700hp 4l60e is not a problem with the right builder, As i have posted before my car see's over 700rwhp and i use a 4l60e built by me that has had failed 3 times in 10,000 mile and well over 100 passes spraying up to 350hp of n20 2 where pump issues that was my fault i was playing with line pressures above the standard and broke one out put shaft in half that was on a 1.34 60ft , Last year my car seen well over 400 passes 1/8 mile thats every thursday and most saturdays at the track and DD duty's on the street and it never failed and the hp level was around the 600 mark.

i agree with the others, stock tranny is a crap shoot. mine with yank 4000ss 550rwhp made it to about 22,000mi with 5000mi of that at this hp i was spraying thru the gears. i paid around $2,000 for a rock on & had bad luck i paid $3,000 for a new trans & all is well so far. the new tranny came from a shop that builds for lingenfelter twin turbo cars 800-900rwhp. if you want the name pm me they are not a sponser & the moderator delet's my post if i say it

they "delet" your post because you can't spell delete or read the site rules you moron.
I had a Rockon 4l60...lasted a good while at over 700rwhp with a 3800lb raceweight...daily driver too. It could not handle another 125-150 shot of spray. I now have a RockOn 4l80e that can sitting in my garage.

Save yourself the hassle, go for a fully built 4L65E or 80E. How many people rebuild their 60E's more than once and could have just saved and bought the 1x, never have to worry solution. Check the sponsors, use the search function a bit, and you'll be good.
