Default Hard shifting!!!

When taking off slow say from a stop light or something or going around a corner, it shifts hard into second, It is a stock 02 z28 with 70,000 miles on it. What could the problem be? Thanks

I have the same problem too. When I'm at a red light and I start to drive off, the car shifts into 2nd gear pretty hard and then the rest of the shifts are fine and smooth. I've check the trans oil while the car is idling warn and its perfect, the color is pink. What gives? My car is a 1998 Z28 with 114K on it. Is it time for a rebuild?

I think it might just be the way the trany is set up. But I may be wrong. But it is really annoying, Lol.

Here's several reasons why your tranny MIGHT act the way it does:

1.You might have the infamous P1870 (tranny slipping) code stored causing the computer to go into limp mode making your 1-2 shift harder. It has to happen several times for the SES light to pop on. Or..

2. Did you buy your car new? If not, then the previous owner might have a shift kit installed.

I agree, some codes will mandate increased line pressure - or pressure/duration could be programmed with a tune - or shift kit was installed.

I bought it used, I noticed it out of the dealership, Before I bought it. I took it to it to a guy at transmission shop, but when I did, it would not do it. And it stoped doing it for awhile, it only seems to do it in the middle of the day. when it is warm out. I really did not care if the tranny was going out. So i still bought it cause it was a steel!!! I plan on doing a tranny swap soon. Hopefully to manual.

I BET YOU HAVE TO DRIVE IT A WHILE BEFORE IT DOES IT I BET THE CONVERTOR CLUTCH IS SLIPPING AND THE PRESSURE CONTROL SOLNIOD IS BYPASSING YOUR TCC REGULATOR. TO MAKE IT SIMPLE YOUR TORGUE CONVERTOR IS BAD AND YOU NEED A PRSSURE REGULATOR SPRING UPDATE FOR YOUR TCC. aNY TRANS SHOP CAN FIX IT, AND IT DOESN'T NEED TO BE COMPLETELY REBUILT JUST REPLACE THE TORGUE AND DROP THE VALVE BODY AND REMOVE THE VALVE BODY AND REPLACE THE SPRING.

I have to agree with shortdog these are both good things to look into. Also I would look for broken spring in the 1-2 accumulator housing. Or possiably a sticky 1-2 accumulator valve in the the valve body. These both will cause irratic shifting.

Could be many variables, a bad TPS will mess with your shifts also, ask how I know?
