i don't know if you'd see any gain at the track with a straight swap. the gain would come from the use of your new transbrake.
i would expect the th400 to be a little slower as the 4l60e 1st gear is wicked short and the 400 would also require the use of a little more power to operate.

You can get a 2.75 first gear in a th400, but it's big dollars to do that.
In the long run, the Th400 will be substantially faster, simply because all the $ that you would have blown rebuilding the junk 4l60 can go to other things that will make a differennce, rather then just replacing a worn out part.

The 4l60 has a 3.08 if I remember correctly for 1st gear, and to have that gear set put in a Th400 you're talking about anoher 800 bucks if I remember correctly. I think that instead of having a 2.48/1.48/1.00 gears, it will have 2.75/1.75/1.00 gears. There's other sets also available, but most people wouldn't go to that gear ratio because if you're running the th400 for it's strenth, you're probably making enough power to warrant it, and the longer first gear helps "calm" the car down a little on launch over the shorter 1st gear, also helps decrease the wheelie action some over the short gear.
