Default weight difference in transmissions

whats the weight differences between a 4l60e,4l80e,and the th400.Trying to select a trans for my winter project 408 with pt88 turbo. So i need something to replace the 4l60e. If the weight difference between the 4l80e and the th400 is minimal i would like to have the overdrive still, that is if the 4l80 could hold the power.
Thanks

4L80E will hold the power but I BELIEVE that it is heavier.

We can never seem to get a solid answer on this question.
So I will add some fuel to the fire and see if we can get some concrete evidence.

TH400 is 28 lbs LIGHTER than a 60E. Which makes the 4L80E one heavy *****.

I got my info from another site so will someone please weigh these things and give us solid numbers.

my guessing from my own car is th400 light...4l60e med...4l80e heavy....i wanna say the 4l80e is 50# heavier than a th400. Quicksilverados 4l60 to 4l80e swap netted about a 20# increase in weight

since I dont know the wt's either I'll reply as well My TH350 weighs less than any of the above trans for sure. (waiting for the "well a race prepped ultra lightened 400 will be less than your 350" comments (but it would cost substantially more as well). I would love to go 80E, but the $ is just too much for me right now. Later, I do plan on getting one, and I will make up the wt difference from somewhere else if need be.

Well we're at it, what's the weight differnece froma th400 to a M6, if you include the bellhousing? I assume the converter and flywheel are about the same as the clutch setup, give or take......

The shipping weight (with container) of my Level 4 4L60E from FLT was 114lbs. Subtract the tranny container weight and there you go. I'm not sure what that is.

Since someone mentioned th350s the shipping weight on mine was 125lbs without converter or fluid. This included the container but it was pretty light.

My 4L80E weighs in at 78lbs. heavier (with the stock pan) than my 4L60.

I love it. The OD, full programmabilty (TCI Controller) and Hughes Street/Strip Package (good to 1000HP) puts it way out in front of the other option when you get over about 650rwhp.

I have it programmed so that under half throttle Mom could drive it around and not complain. Over half throttle and it's like a drag tranny. Whams your head back.

Mis-read...

That's quite a big difference. And the converter is even heavier still.

This seems to be correct with other sites I have seen lately.
TH350 = 120 lbs
TH400 = 135 lbs
4L60E = 155 lbs

I could not find a number on the 80E but going by the difference between the TH350 and the 60e I would say the 80E would be about 175 to 180.
There is no scientific basis for these numbers just stuff I ran across while doing some quick research on the net.

IF I were looking into an 80E I would buy raptors Quadzilla.
Fully manual and able to handle WOT upshifts from 3 to 4 for $3095.

Again my 4L60E as shipped, including the container was 114lbs so that number can't be right. Maybe it is with a converter and/or full of fluid?

my 4l60e shipping weight was 210 lbs, which is pretty high over the actual weight, my back and arms tell me the trans weighs between 120 and 150 dry, no way its 114 or i would be able to toss it...

I dont know the exact weight of an 80, but it is atleast 50lbs more than a 60. My hands and back tell me more than that. A TH400 is about the same as a T56 if not alittle lighter.

From working at all the smaller shops I have worked at .... no one ever weights their shipments! They almost always guess and there is a 40% chance it will get reweighed in transit but it is almost always wrong. I wouldn't bet 2 cents on your shipping invoice.

I can't imagine having a manual shift automatic in a street-driven car. Maybe it's just me but I would get sick of that after like 2 weeks. The only draw to the Raptor is that you don't need expensive electronics, but then you have manual-only shift and your lose all the great programmability of the 80E. And at that price, you're not even saving a real lot of money in the overall project total.
