Default how much ATF?

shift kit is going in this weekend in my 95 z28. i figured i might as well change the ATF while im down there because i have no clue as to when it was changed last. i looked in my manual but, i cant find how many quarts to put in. also, what kind of fluid is best? i hear non synthetic, is this true?

i have a smaller converter than stock and i think (i said i "think") it held around 10-12 qts. i'd buy 12 or 13 to be on the safe side, or if you have a stock converter, just a few qts less. mine has royal purple synthetic in it, and yes, synthetic atf is good for your tranny. anything synthetic is good. i've used royal purple, amsoil, and mobil 1.

If you think that than obviously you know nothing about your car or his ...
A 93-02 Tranny with stock pan and converter hold's 5 Qt's
The converter hold's no additional fluid than that of the 5 Qt's already inside the tranny , How else when you drain the tranny would you remove the aditional 7 Qt's that you claim????
The only other way you would have any additional Qt's is if you had an aftermarket tranny pan and those are only 1-2 Extra Qt's So that would still put you with 5 Less Qt's than the 12 you claim.
I installed a Transgo shift kit in my car which require's completely draining the fluid and took it exactly 5 Qt's to fill the tranny back up
And do you know where the level on the dipstick read after i filled it??? It read FULL!!! And do you know what it still read's FULL!!!
Just because i don't have many post's on this doesnt mean i don't know anything and by the looks of it i know more than you do RICEETER
LMz28 trust me 5 Qt's is all it will take to fill the tranny, As for the ATF rating i would just use what is recommended in your Manual by GM if you buy 12 Qt's be prepared to have 7 extra full Qt's of fluid

total capacity is around 12-13 quarts with an external cooler (taken into account smaller converter) and pan capacity is something like 4-5 quarts. isnt a shift kit done just by dropping the pan? youd only lose the fluid in the pan

1st off i was commenting from my experience with installing my shift kit
2nd like i explained i thought all the fluid came out when the pan was off.. I didnt have the pleasure of being able to remove it and install a t.c. so like i said 5 qt's
3rd I wasn't trying to come off like i knew everything refer to #1
4th I thought i would appologize to you after being corrected and realizing i was wrong .. which i see you didn't deserve so you decide to insult me in return ... So regardless i don't care rightnow of playing who is the tough guy behind the computer So you can suck this dick's dick ok Ricerteer

Let's keep it civil, we all make mistakes, and we're here to learn.

Pan holds about 4-5 qts, stock converter holds about 7 qts;

If you want to change all 12 (or so) qts, see this...
