Any cam will "work" with the stock ~1600 RPM stall, but even the factory cam works BETTER with a high stall converter. You may want to look at getting a ~3000 stall at least someday? (~3500 is probably better for an LS1 ... especially a cammed LS1 ).

Check this thread out... this guy is saying that the stock stall doesn't work well with the LS6 cam (and no other mods.)

Anybody else have experience with this?

The stock ls1 cam "doesn't work well" with the stock converter if you're wanting the best acceleration out of your car. This is painfully apparent by normal .4-.6 sec ET reduction with the addition of a higher stall to an otherwise stock ls1. You can absolutely run the ls6 cam with the stock ls1 stall, you may even get away with little to no tuning. Will it be as fast as the same car with a 3000+ stall?....absolutely not.

Okay, I don’t think I was asking the right question… what I want to know is: using the stock converter, will the LS6 cam give you more or less torque/power in the lower RPM range than a 98-2000 F-body?

My guess would be about the same or a little bit less, depending on your definition of "lower rpm range" (I'm talking <2500rpm). As the duration of the cam increases, generally the powerband of that cam moves up the rpm range. The ls6 cam isn't a whole lot bigger than the ls1 cam, so the powerband won't move up much....but it will move up. I really don't think your butt-dyno will be able to tell the difference between the two in lower rpms.

The LS6 cam will not improve low end hp or tq compared to the stock LS1 cam.
It wasn't designed to do that. A dyno chart comparison usually shows the LS6 cam will start pulling away around 3000 rpms and increase the difference well up to 6500 rpms. I ran the 02 LS6 cam and a Yank Y3200 and loved the car. It could run mid-low 12's all day, but the key was the converter and 6500 shift points.
