At least the old Yank vs Vig arguements were a little entertaining, this BS is just that

If you want to save some money up front than by all means go with an unproven, inferior product like the TCI converter. Now when you realize that that decision was wrong think how much MORE money it will be to pull the trans/converter another time along with the new converter's price. It'll be cheaper to get something thats been tested over and over.

Now street racing= SuperYank 3500
a little strip action= Super Thruster 3500
Ultimate Street/Strip if you got tires to hold it= Thruster Pro 4400

Also the smallest stall for an LS1 would be 3500. 99% of people with smaller will stall up within a year of getting it because it became the limiting factor like the stocker did as mods are installed down the line

I am just curious for arguments sake....All you guys that are bashing TCI's....How many have you seen go bad or cause failures?

I havent seen any....Granted I havent been around as long as y'all.

I just want to know before I go sellin my inferior product to someone else and make them go 4-6 tenths faster on a tight budget.

I have one question......

Does that company GER make a converter for 4l60e's yet????

I can speak from experience on this one. I was a poor college kid and couldn't afford any of the high dollar converters for a 5.0 stnag I had so I went with a ger cause it was just like 200 bucks or maybe even a tad less. I soon as I got it in I knew somthing was up. It was a 3k stall and would flash to like 2200 (yes 2200) and made this terrible sound constantly. Well I called them and they said everything sounded fine to them and to take it to the track and see how well it performed. I went from a best of 9.22 to an earth shattering best of 9.19 with the new converter (i know these are slow times but back then it was alright for a poor kid )

With 2 months the verter completely gernaded taking the tranny with it. Car was still under warranty and had it not been for a buddy replacing it under warranty and overlooking the crap I'd done to it I would have never been able to afford to get that mess pfixed. They were nice enough to install a new tranny and a new converter.

I really really I have a problem with the GER stuff if their still aorund/

If you have control of the pcm then it can be locked up at anytime. Many or some people at least will lock their converter in the upper rpm's of 3rd gear in order to gain a few mph at the track. This can be done witha switch or through pcm programming. Alot of the 3600 vig guys do this due to the fact that it leaves really hard but is lacking a little on the top end so locking it my give an extra mph or so.

No 1/4 mile times. Not any close tracks. I can tell ya though that most of the gain on my car was made in the 1/8 cause like i said earlier...shortly after the 1/8 mile the 2-3 shift occurred and with a 2.73 gear it didn't pull very well. Guessing from 1/8 mile times I'd say they would be 12.5 -12.6 @ around 110 but this is just speculation.

First you get on here and try and get a dude to buy a piece of junk verter' and then then accuse the whole establishment of lying all the while your using vulgarity I wouldnt use in public. You need to get a grip.

Secondly the TCI verter is JUNK. The clearances inside it are inconsistent and i find it ludicrous that they would actually sell the paper weight to the general public. They are in some cases THREE times greater than what Yank recommends.
Notice how I am not bagging on Coan or Pro Torque...just TCI. Why? because I "DO" know what the heck I am talking about here, and it's a dang shame that they are selling this ca-ca to the LS1 public.

TCI/LS1 = Junk

It will perform very well from a roll and isn't too bad for daily driving. There will be no more dead spots and the car will feel like it's pulling first gear even when your in third.

Sorry Ragtop, I had a Y3200 and this is all I have to say. .3 at the track and nothing from a roll. It's only good point is that it feels like stock.

John

PS - How high can the y3200 be restalled too? It just needed a higher stall and some more shift extension. I guess I fell into that "I don't want too loose a converter" trap my first time around.

I still have it and would get rid of it cheap.

98SS Blackattack - I would get rid of it CHEAP and then you could have Yank refurbish it.

I run the Y3200 and love it. 1.80 60-fts at the track with Nittos, and excellent driveability. From a roll the converter kicks @ss. If I nail it between 30-60mph it pulls like a shot of NOS. I love mine, but sorry to hear your dissatisifed with yours.

GER? ditto. A real good buddy of mine just last year went through a nightmare with them... pull tranny, send off stall, get it back , sucked, repeat to infnintum. Finally he had to take the crook to small claims court.
The Victim? James Stacy 72' Challenger.

James finally upgraded to a fine Precision Verter. He is MEGA happy now.

I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in on the GER=Ca Ca band wagon.

Ok i drive my car everywhere work ,play vacation ,maine , cape cod, vermont ,everywhere. It is stock except for muffler, lid and aircleaner, with a 3000 TCI converter with 273s. I have spray if i want to play, Im not modifing anything else. Its quick and fun ,If blackattack is staying mostly stock with bolt ons and doesnt see alot of track time what would u guys recomend for his car.Id say vig 2800, or yank 3000, or tci 3000, if he plans on more mods he should rethink what converter he wants maybe a vig 3200, 3600, yank 3200 or st3500 or tci 3500,personal preference, and his wallat size.Ihave run coans in other cars and they are good to,My car is on a budget u no money budget,As for Flaming dustin i just said that jokingly and he new that i think his response was lol ok people Its the forum GOd guys that got all uppity from the comments, Ps i have seen yanks converters with problems in CT,people sent them back to mike and he sent them a new one so u see every company can make mistakes, I even bashed my own car 2000 TA that knocks like a bitch until it warms up,I brought it to the dealer and they replaced #2 piston with another piston (the same size) that was teflon coated to make it quieter and it is alittle , brought it back again and Gm sent me a letter saying its normal and we all no its not so Im stuck for now . Maybe ill send a 200 shot through it to see how nomal it is LOL. Peace and love Dudes

He said he saw a TCI cut open side by side with a Yank and the TCI's parts were JUNK compared to the Yank. Have you seen them side by side? I didn't think so. Even if you had, do you even have the knowledge to know the differences in materials used? I didn't think so.

Raughammer has been a HUGE part in development to the LS1 community over the last 4 yrs. HE has also held the ET record for Bolt-on cars and stock cube cars. He has been a HUGE help to 1000's, that's right, I said 1000's of LS1 owners over the years and has put in 100's of hours of work into helping us, myself included.(THANKS JOHN!!)

Tell me, Mr. 32 posts, what have you done?

So, pull your head out of your ***, sit down, STFU and you might learn something.

I gained 7 tenths in the 1/8 with my Yank ST3500

I don't think you can upgrade the y3200 to a ST3800. I bought it new in a group purchase. I just don't see the Y3200 getting much better 60' than 1.80. I was flashing it outta the hole and the Nittos were holding it great.

I don't know how much the ST3800 picked up over the Y3200 but, it felt significant. I did put on FLP longtubes at the same time though. The converter held ~4800rpm on the upshift compared to ~4200 with the Y3200.

I'm serious when I say that you couldn't tell when the car shifted. It pulled hard all the way from 1st until whenever you wanted to let off.

I had slightly raised shiftpoints that would allow a downshift from 4th to 2nd at 70mph. You want to talk about a kick in the pants.

One other thing. The 3800 was much easier to launch hard(rolling into throttle) on street tires than the Y3200. I think the extra stall helped by not letting all the power hit the tires as quick as a tighter lower stall converter.

Hope that info helps with somebodies converter purchase.
