Help me pick a Converter!
3200 should be perfect and good for .5 off 1/4 ets
A auto with a stall and some Nitto's will rock a high hp 6spd. on the street anyday, all day.
For stoplight racing and low budget, I'd really consider a used SY 3500. Call Yank and ask if they have any trade-ins; Yank opens them up and inspects them and it could save a few hundred dollars off the new price. I'd go for a Yank 3200 or a Vig 2800 for a new converter.

In all fairness to the y3200 the weather conditions were horrendous the day I ran it and I think the trans was a little warm.
Thats good to know that it could possibly be turned into a SY3500. That might help sell it if I really need to get rid of it.
Thanks Joel

So when its bolted up to the flexplate ( as it pulls forward when tightened) it would barely be located by a few mm on the 2 lugs in the front pump of the trans . Saying that I had it in there for 10,000 ks before the front pump grenaded into peices . Yeah its cheap but you guys in the US I dont know why you would even consider it when for only an extra $300 you get a well built , proven yank or vig .

The Best V8 Stories One Small Block at Time
I would rather have a stock verter and concentrate on other mods ,than that POS, TCI/LS1 crap.
Junk
Really concentrate on either a vig or a yank. A SY3500 would do an aspiring fellow who street races occasionaly VERY good.
A ST3500 or ST3800 would be more than adequate, but you would need better tires.
It will perform very well from a roll and isn't too bad for daily driving. There will be no more dead spots and the car will feel like it's pulling first gear even when your in third.

Sorry Ragtop, I had a Y3200 and this is all I have to say. .3 at the track and nothing from a roll. It's only good point is that it feels like stock.
John
PS - How high can the y3200 be restalled too? It just needed a higher stall and some more shift extension. I guess I fell into that "I don't want too loose a converter" trap my first time around.
I still have it and would get rid of it cheap.
98SS Blackattack - I would get rid of it CHEAP and then you could have Yank refurbish it.

People talk crap about TCI converters and dont no what they are talking about. They go by what they hear,I installed a TCI street fighter converter in my 2000 trans am and gained .5 tenths in 1/4 If i didnt have a 273 gear ratio i would have went with the super street fighter. For the money ill take it .But you make the choice your money.

LOL, ever seen the inside of a LS1/TCI converter? JUNK *** parts. You might as well just run a GM S-15 converter and same your money. It's about the same thing. JUNK.
Ever had one apart and compared it to a REAL converter? TCI/LS1 verters are junk.
Sorry dude, I DO know what i am talking about, i have SEEN the two side by side. I know what parts go in both (or all three)
TCI = junk. I would be ashamed to sell one to another racer. I would feel as though I was selling him junk. Cause that is just what it is. Junk.
Hey, prove me wrong. I would love it if there was a good, proven alternative to the BIG two. But as it stands, there is'nt. (Not that I have seen)
TCI = junk.
But hey, peace and love dude.

Hey Raughammer u can talk TCI crap all u want bottom line is 40% of all LS1 have piston slap , or some other noises coming from them ,dont get me wrong the LS1 is a strong performer that makes power But like u said DUDE CRAP IS CRAP.GM fix for there problems is well wait let me think about this a second oh yaa NOTHING? Or maybe teflon coated pistons . So BS is still BS dude so as the LS1 engine says knock, knock, knock. Peace and love .

What in gods name are you talking about and how does any of that relate to tci converters sucking??
I've had several and my favorte 'small' converter has to be the vig2800....it is a definate over achiever. Its awesome for its size. Bit converter gotta go tp4400
As far as installing a converter to gain top end.....get a nice yank and you'll most defilantly gain a few mph on the top end.
As far the ls1 being crap.....go to the track sometime and watch **** fly
and the nittos weren't needed in the 8.9 passes due to traction not being an issue. I never got a pass that didn't have some wheel spin is the only reason I din't break into the 7's.
Almost 9 tenths and 7 mph is a very large gain.....for the 1/8 mile.
Oh...and the 8.90 was in cool march air and the 8.0's came in may and june.
Heck billy......the sy is a high $$$$$ converter..yank it and get a st3500 or similar. You could probably bout pay for it for what you'd get out of the sy. But days of hooking awesome on the street would be over.
btw....as it pretains to this thread....if I couldn't afford a new yank or vig I would keep an eye out in the classifieds. Used ones go for about what the tci's go for new.
