How good are new GM trannies? Mine has over 100K and I think it's on the way out.

not. youll still have a trans that will crap out on you for as much or more than the price of an aftermarket 'built' trans... get yours rebuilt

Just bought a nice STAGE IV setup from RPM Transmissions for the same exact price as a GM transmission. The new one will handle up to 600 rwhp and is built solid.

I was refered to a local guy that builds race trannies. He quoted me a very good price. Thanks for the replies.

But does he build 4L60E's? Few "builders" know how to make those things live behind power, regardless how many years experience they have with other transmissions.

and if you want to know if the builder your talking to know whats happening
Ask him this
What acts as the 3rd clutch accumulator?
Let me know what he says and ill let you know if he knows what hes doing .

my ? is ....why build it to this or that....minus the money issue....i mean really, put the hardened parts in and dont scrimp

im done modding my car for about a year, it runs fine now, no tranny issues, i did put a trans go kit in and added a cooler just to have a little safeguard....BUT

when its time to start modding again and its time for a tranny, im going all out....im replacing everything in the tranny...no scrimping, no tranny tech tellin me "we inspect everything, and replace what NEEDS to be replaced"....NO replace it all...i just dont understand why everyone doesnt do this in the first place...and save themselves from issues later on....ehhh .02

You would still have the accumulation factor due to the fact there is a heavy spring on the inside though it would not be much , since the presure on each side would be equal but the spring would facilitate the release and the chamber would still fill up , Now whats bad and I have seen it is when the someone uses the billet servo and leaves the return spring out, then its fry the 3-4 clutch time since the band will not release that way , Or when someone uses the billet servo and the uses a shift kit that restricts the 3rd acumulator feed in the vb plate which also results in troubles in a big hurry,
