Default 3:73s with Torque Converter,Yes or No?

Is there a good gain to do 3:73s with a T/C?How hard will the car be to launch, and will the gears just cause the Rear end to go.Would adding a girdle do anything to help the rear or is that just a waste of money.Thunder has a rear end gear package that comes with a girdle for around $400. I will be adding the VIG3200 stall, trans go shift kit, and a 100-125dry kit from harris speedworks also some Mickey Drags.Gonna have the car Dyno tuned 2 after all this so thats why Im wondering now if the gears should be added.

The converter alone will wake things up.

gears will just add more stress and not give you much gains....save the gears for the 12 bolt...maybe worth like 1 tenth at the track..unless u have 2.73 then maybe a hair more...not worth it....save the money for more bottle fill ups haha

To clarify on the above post...the gears will make the 10-bolt rear weaker, but they actually decrease stress on the transmission and TC.

The T/C was the best mod I did and really woke the car up. As for the gears, I went to 3.73 when I installed the 12 bolt. It will be night and day. When I launch my car, i just bring it up to 1000-1200 and flash the converter. Watch the below video and keep an eye on the front wheels. I would however step up to a 3600 stall, I was worried about drivability, but it’s fine. If you ever want to install a cam, you already have the right converter in there. I had mine tuned, no shift kit needed.

i have 373 gears, a 4k stall, and a girdle...i have a ****-ton of passes with 1.70 or quicker launches, and ~15 between 1.62-5. with a 3600lb raceweight i'm still on the factory rear dif (64k on it now) with the gear & girdle being the only grades.

if you have 273s (like i did) i say do gears and a stall. don't let the car wheelhop and you'll be fine.

Thanks guys I have a WS6 so I got the 3:23s.Yeah I think Il just save the money for the gears for down the road for the 12bolt with 3:73s. What about the girdle does it help give the rear any extra support worth the $150 4 the girdle.I had thoughts of going with the 3600Vig but just dont know for sure might just stick with the 3200 cause I hear it actually stalls higher my car is not a daily driver so what do you guys think 3200 or 3600.(It will be a while before a cam goes into the car)

i'd go larger than 3600. i went 4k and wish i had gone larger. since you have 323 gears, don't bother with upgrading to 373s, do as you said and wait until you break the rear. ..as far as the girdle, theoretically it makes sense as to why it would prolong the rear, and as i said before - i have many hard launches on mine and it is fine. i am more afraid of losing the tranny than the rear. also, you'll need a tranny cooler and tune with that stall. possibly a shift kit, that is up to you.

remember though a vig3600 is more like a 4000 if not higher...

What's the STR on the converter you're buying? If it's too loose, you may not like how it feels down low around town, and new gears might help that out

If you really want to up the fun factor of the car then do 3.73s with the stall.
Its a whole bunch of fun with em.

Default 3.23 too high

do the 3.73 an aftermarket gear will make rear stronger if anything the lower gear will make the tranny last longer also i went 3.73 and love it they are people here that have ran 10s on the 10 bolt it will be a good time to rebuild the rearto and maybe throw in some stronger axles

yeah be sure to get a higher stall than you want. I think the converters are rated for a stock gear. my tci 3000 is really like a 2800 or less with the 3.73s

Im pretty sure the VIGs are 2.5str. I guess when I order my converter Il discuss the 3:73s with Thunder. How would the 3:73s improve my trap speed and help me from a roll with the converter?
