i got my 99z all stock w/ 81k
ran and shifted perfect
then i got an hpp3 and ajusted the trans firmness....5k later 3-4 was almost out then babied it for another 3k til i did my tranny swap.
i voted 100k though b/c i know it would have lasted alot longer if i hadnt messed w/ hypertech tuner, ive seen stock ones last in vwell maintained cars over 220k!

GM rates the 4L60E at a max shift RPM tolerance of 6,000 rpms. in reality, the rev limiter is set slightly higher, but 6,500+ rpm's is a death sentence. start shifting at 6,800 rpms and it's a gonner.

That's funny that you say that, I had my car tuned on Tuesday and he moved my WOT shift points up to 6400 RPM's. I've got 136,000 miles and the tranny still shifts smooth and doesn't slip but now that my tune is done and the shift points are moved, well, it's a countdown to death day. I'm going to beat the hell outta this thing too, as soon as it warms up I'm going to the track. If it makes it to 150,000 miles I'll be surprised.

haha, That's exactly the thinking that got me my built tranny and stall.
I think its a pretty good rationalization...

At about 40K miles I added a 100HP shot of nitrous. The factory HD 4L60 lasted 3 street passes and lost the 2-3 shift.

Added about $600 of Transgo parts and the tranny lasted another 25K miles, sold it and last I heard had another 20K miles without trouble.

i'll agree with the post that it can't handle 6800 rpm shifts. i just had mine rebuilt about 2000 mi ago and took it on about 15 passes and and it just went **** up on me. my shift points are at 6700. i have a 408 and it just destroyed that tranny.

mine blew up and was competly useless at 59,000 good thing i had a spare! that one has 69000 and is very strong. after i changed the soloniod and got the shift points right and had the filter changed and the fluid flushed and found the right converter and had the shift points changed again. now all is well in 460le land for me. the one in our tahoe has 106k and still shifts perfect but the tow haul button doesn't work.

Hmm. I picked up a stall and gears for my car and have yet to put them in. This thread is really making me think about doing it, the trans has 130k on it...

My car only has 41k miles. The original tranny started slipping after a dyno tune and torque management was removed. First nitrous pass it failed catastrophically. I now have an FLP Level 4 that can handle the nitrous and can handle WOT 6600 rpm shifts with no torque management.

My stock trans in my Caprice lasted til about 105,000. That was before the LT4. Then the second lasted for about 25,000 and everything just came apart. I am on my third one from Monster Motorsports and it is BAD ***!!!! Now I am in the process of replacing the trans in my Camaro. It went about 2 years ago just driving down the interstate. So needless to say starting a business and getting married really F'D everything up! But now she'll be driveable again soon...... I cant wait!

136k. lost 3 & 4 gear. I think it's the clutch paks, servos, or valve body. I don't even care. Buying a performabuilt lvl2 when i get money saved.

Car made 8 passes on the track that day. Took a **** on the way home. Still stock, except a lid. Piece of **** transmission

RPM is the devil with these things! 25000 before I screwed up installing my converter and broke the pump. Had it rebuilt by Aamco and it lasted about another 25000 when the converter gave up and took everything with it. Then I had one built by a local guy, upped the shift points and burned the rear planetary after about 12000. Had 5 pinion planetaries installed and frictions replaced then broke the tailshaft housing and wiped the bushing in the rear of the case requiring another rebuild, this time with the vaccumn mod. Now with 6600 rpm upshifts it's starting to slip with about 30000 on the clock. Here we go again!

Just go with an FLP Level 4 or 5 and you won't continue to have those problems. Mine shifts at 6600-6700 rpm all day long.

mine would has lasted longer if I would not have thrown a cam in and then drove the hell out of it. 53000, went to stall and shift kit it, no no no things are not that simple, when i looked in the tranny the drum was messed up bad and the 3-4 clutches were about to go.
